The following is the information from last year's NYSSMA conference. As new information is posted on the NYSSMA website, I will update this page accordingly.
Each year a number of students from WI’s band and orchestra program participate in the NYSSMA Spring Evaluation Festival. This festival requires that instrumentalists learn and perform a piece of music chosen from an established list of classical repertoire. The performance is done in front of an accredited music teacher who then evaluates the performance based on tone, articulation, accuracy, interpretation, scales, and sight-reading. As a young musician, I participated in the NYSMMA Festival each year and have fond memories of the many pieces that I learned.
This year’s festival will take place at Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose, NY on April 29th and 30th.
The registration deadline is March 11th. Payment of $14 must be received by this date or you will not be able to participate. All checks should be made payable to Washington Irving School. Please scroll down for a registration form.
Audition Times for NYSSMA will be assigned by NYSSMA. I do not have any control over what times will be assigned. Requests have not been honored in the past. Please reserve both Friday evening and Saturday morning until the times have been posted. In the past, times have not been posted until three weeks before the actual festival date.
For Sixth Graders Only:
Intermediate All-County auditions are based upon your NYSSMA score in sixth grade. Therefore, any sixth grade students who wish to audition for Intermediate All-County (for next year) should sign up for NYSSMA this spring. They should also speak with me about picking a competitive piece (Level 3 and above). There will not be an audition for next year’s Intermediate All-County except for the score you receive on this year’s NYSSMA evaluation.
