Gourds have always been important in primitive cultures, used as tableware, containers, instruments and implements. The humble and versatile gourd can be fanciful and fun.
I started raising gourds about 14 years ago and have included in the harvests birdhouse, martin, kettle, egg shell, dipper, and other gourds. I have been painting as a hobbyist for about 27 years and found a wonderful medium in gourds. Every gourd offers different opportunities for one's imagination. Various bird species will nest in gourds hanging in an opportune location. Even if our feathered friends aren't in the housing market, the gourds still make unique yard decorations.
Once dried, my gourds are cleaned, hollowed, wood burned, hand painted, and sometimes carved.
Unfortunately, I had to move away from my gourd garden and harvested my last crop in 2020. I now live in Lancaster County, PA, an area rich with gourd growers. I still have access to plenty of gourds and now I have my own shop in Stoudtburg Village, 5 N. Village Circle, Reinholds, PA. (See Google Maps). My shop is also featured on the website https://stoudtburgvillageshops.com/ and can be located on Google Maps.
Photo Gallery (see dropdown top right). Gourds are usually priced between $18 and $25 with few exceptions. I do commissioned work as well. Go to the Photo Gallery to view some recent designs that are in or were recently in the shop. Prices are not listed here because it depends on the size and condition of the gourd as well as the complexity of the design. Carving is very labor intensive. Pennsylvania sales tax is included in all sale.
Email me at bckwhty@gmail.com for availability and price of particular gourds. Paypal accepted.
Love the gourd!
