Born north of Chicago, IL, Bat learned his guitarist’s trade on the road. Hitchhiking across the country as a teen, Bat landed in San Francisco playing requests on the wharf for tips.
Looking to play with ensembles, Bat found it much easier to get work as a bassist/keyboardist/lead vocalist than as a guitar player, and he became a respected musician worldwide, and played with ensembles in 50+ countries. Bat spent nearly 10 years performing for active duty Troops of the USA and their Allies at US military bases and Embassies all around the world. He is honored and humbled to play for his veterans.
After a long run of world travel on bass/keys/voice, Bat tired of touring with bands and performing the same show every night; he longed for something more spontaneous, which also covered a broader range of skills and styles.
Currently, with superior guitarists now in short supply, Bat has returned his focus to his original instrument, and then some. He now joins a very limited company in his wizardry of the 12-string acoustic guitar.
His songwriting is acclaimed worldwide, has been featured on TV shows like “Pimp My Ride,” and has won National songwriter grants from ASCAP 2 years in a row. His songwriting style crosses all borders, with heavy influence on melody, vocal strength and amazing guitar passages. While they are very catchy tunes, he studiously avoids writing the type of formula songs that dominate commercial airwaves.
His first solo CD “Waiting For Zavala” is recorded strictly with acoustic 12- string and voice, and is a spot-on representation of the live show. Storytelling songs are mixed with occasional goofiness, as well as highly polished instrumental pieces. International acoustic guitar legend Rick Del Castillo (Winner of Numerous Producer of the Year and Texas Medal of Arts Awards) produced the disc, and the result is pure magic.
The second release
“Digital Sculpture” has a more produced feel; while the songs are still
recorded strictly by acoustic means (not a single electronic instrument, sample
or loop) the vocal arrangements are quite lush. This CD features some of the
finest 12 string guitar playing anywhere, but also includes some compositions
for nylon-string Classical guitar, Ukulele, and an Acapella doo-wop piece. The songs and complete CD ('Digital Sculpture' released 4 /14) will be considered for several Texas Medal of Arts Awards categories this year, 2014.
Superior storytelling, great singing, incredible guitar playing. . . that’s what you’re going to hear.
