Few of the main objectives of training are for employees to accomplish their job accurately, successfully, and diligently.

To have a successful training, a prepared trainer and useful training tools are necessary. The following are the key qualities for trainers: advanced research abilities, effective communication skills, organization skills, ability to adapt, and commitment to lifelong learning. Next are the essential tools for trainers: Learning Management System (LMS), presentation slides, training videos, and the internet.

Here in this article, we will talk about 5 types of training and which ones you can use for your workplace.

These are: Orientation Training/Induction Training, Job Instruction Training, Apprenticeship Training, Required Regular Training, and Online Training.


First in line is the Orientation Training/ Induction Training.

Orientation is the process used to acquaint new hires with their duties, coworkers, and working environment. People who have had an effective orientation training feel more at ease in their new positions, teams, and departments while also being informed of the expectations and policies of the firm. New hires can voice any issues or concerns during orientation. Additionally, it aims to make them feel more at ease in their responsibilities.

Orientation falls under the larger umbrella of onboarding.

The onboarding process equips new hires with the resources they need to succeed in their positions. This form of training the most common and is found in most, if not all kinds of workplace.

The next kind of training is the Job Instruction Training.

To give employees step-by-step training, job instruction training refers to listing each job's fundamental duties together with its most important components. This list consists of steps and essential points that explain what trainees should accomplish, how to perform these tasks, and why it’s done.

This kind of training is typically reserved for industries requiring manual labor, such as manufacturing workers. These tasks require less abilities and may be taught in a straightforward, step-by-step manner. Both one-on-one and group instruction can be used to deliver this training. It can also be used to teach new technology to existing employees or workers.

Third on the list, we have Apprenticeship Training.

Apprenticeship is a system for educating a new generation of practitioners of a trade or profession through on-the-job training. In this kind of training, an apprentice and employer enter a contract regarding a job that is eligible for apprenticeship.

Technical workers who work closely with professionals in their fields for an extended length of time, such as mechanics, electricians, carpenters, welders, etc., receive apprenticeship training. Before the worker becomes an expert in his profession, the apprenticeship training program typically lasts for four to five years.

On to the fourth type of training, we have required regular training.

By scheduling frequent training for your employees, you can maintain their credentials up to date. Workers that have received training will also be competent at what they do because they have updated their knowledge. As the employee skill set expands, so will the firm; this will assist attract top talent to join your team and demonstrate to potential employees that you provide numerous options for advancement.

Lastly, we have Online Training.

It is the electronic delivery of a training or educational program. Online Training involves utilizing a computer or other electronic device to deliver training, instructional, or learning content.

There are two types of Online Training: Asynchronous Training, and Synchronous or live training.

Employees can access asynchronous training whenever they want, such as online courses, videos, and moderated discussion forums. On the other hand, synchronous or live training involves multiple participants participating at once, interacting with the instructor and with one another via online chat, webinars, and virtual classrooms.

Online training is mostly fitted to workplaces applying work from home set-ups. The requirements for this kind of training are all in an electronic format by using an online training platform. It then results to lower costs due to the elimination of paper and the decrease of travel expenses for the employees.

Also, asynchronous online training provides knowledge that is always accessible to the employee. As a result, the employee has better access to the topics in which they are interested. Unlike traditional learning methods that use a classroom, the online training platform assures that fast learners may increase productivity.

With all these kinds of training discussed, it is important to remember that at the end of the day, it is the performance of the employees that matter most, not training.
