Information for Students
Assignment due: Friday, November 5, 2010.
Instructions: Download the attached files and print the "Error Detection Playing Sheet" and the "Error Detection Worksheet". Play each example on the "Error Detection Playing Sheet" along with the .mp3 file that accompanies it. On the playing sheet, circle the one note that is different in the recording than on the "Error Detection Playing Sheet". Then listen to the recording again and write down on the "Error Detection Worksheet" the notes that you hear in the recording for that example.
For your playing test on Friday, October 22, all students will need to play Phantasm I along with the click track for a grade. Below you can find MP3 files of the click tracks so that you can practice and prepare.
Please listen to these recordings from our rehearsal and find specific measures that you can work to improve before rehearsal next Tuesday.
All members of the concert band wind section should listen to the following recordings from rehearsal last night and write down two things for each piece that you will practice and fix between now and next Thursday. Bring your lists with you to Tuesday's rehearsal. If you have any questions, please see me in school or email me (email@example.com).
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Drum Major help session and Drum Major Auditions in February. The NBHS band is very lucky to have such promising students excited about leading the program. After a very rigorous selection process, Cara Zajac and Olyvia Leahy have been selected as drum majors for the 2010-2011 season. Congratulations again to everyone involved. Let's keep working hard to make every rehearsal and performance a success between now and next season!
Drum Major Auditions for the 2010 Fall Marching Season will take place on Friday, February 26 at 5:00pm in the NBHS Band Room. Candidates must have completed one season of Marching Band and be in good academic standing in order to apply. Applications must be completed and turned in upon arrival for the auditions. Anyone accepting the position must make a commitment to attend every rehearsal and performance for the 2010-2011 school year.
Audition format will be as follows:
I. Conduct the National Anthem
II. Informal Interview
III. Marching Exhibition
IV. Prepared Conducting
The Auditions will be performed for a committee of 3-6 people chosen by Mr. Drew with various backgrounds qualifying them to take part. The commitee will select 1-3 drum major(s) as deemed appropriate with the goal being to select the strongest team of drum majors to lead the band musically and personally. Results will be announced upon conclusion of the auditions.
The Auditions could last from one to three hours. If there are more than five candidates, the pool will be narrowed to five students after round one (Conducting the National Anthem).
A help session will be held for all interested students on Friday February 12 at 4:00pm in the NBHS Band Room.
Anyone with questions should contact Mr. Drew
