The packed room was silent as one by one, the 8 finalists in the Rules as Tools Quiz dropped one-by-one
with answers of FALSE to the tie-breaking question.  "When a player determines her ball is unplayable, she may mark the ball, lift and clean the ball or replace the ball."  In a dramatic conclusion, Ronnie Nelson was the last finalist standing with the TRUE answer and was the winner of the prize gift basket.

The Workshop kicked off the 2018 Golf Season and started with a breakfast provided by the WGC Board of Directors. The BVWGC 'Heart' logo'd apparel and merchandise was also presented. It was a chance to reconnect with friends returning from winter travels and meet many of our 13 new members. Lisa Vines, 2018 Rules Committee Chair, welcomed the 90+ members and guests in attendance.

Ruth Hatcher kicked off the program with a plea for 'volunteers' to help with the APT Tournament again this year.  Bella Vista is the only stop on the APT tour that supports the tournament with a full slate of volunteers.

The program was then turned over to our PGA Professionals, Phillip Wright, Director of Golf Operations, Gavin Smith, PGA Pro at Kingsdale Golf Complex and Alex Sanford, PGA Pro at the Highlands.  Phillip provided tips to improve Pace of Play.  We are focused
on being able to finish our rounds in 4 hours, leaving plenty of time to socialize after the round.  These tips included simple, common sense steps including taking a club to the tee box, playing ready golf and finishing up scoring on the next hole. Gavin and Alex discussed the finer points of the rules including those related to hazards.  Keith Ihms, Director of Golf Maintenance, talked about how golfers can help the maintenance team by filling divots with sand and fixing ball marks properly.  The Pros then took questions from the crowd.

The Quiz, presented by the Rules Committee, put the crowd on edge.  One by one, the questions were asked and answered, with those answering incorrectly sitting down - usually accompanied with comments ranging from 'WHAT???' to 'I never knew that!!'.  In the end, Ronnie Nelson took home the top honors.

The event was a complete success and our thanks and appreciation go out to the Rules Committee, our guest speakers, Board Members and everyone who attended.  The next event on the BVWGC schedule is the Mad Hatter Madness Spring Bunch on Thursday, March 29th.
