Our History

Joanne Wevodau opened Joanne's School of Dance in Harrisburg using the hallways and gymnasium of the St. Catherine's School on Derry Street. It was there that Carol Wevodau started teaching dance for her. Joanne became the director of the West Shore YMCA and turned the studio over to Carol in 1981.

To maintain the family legacy, the name changed to the Wevodau School of Dance. Soon after, we opened a West Shore location in the Upper Allen township building. The studio remained in that location for a few years, but as the studio grew, we relocated to our former location in Camp Hill, and the name changed to the Wevodau Dance Center.

We would like to thank Carol and her husband Larry for 35 amazing years! Carol and Larry retired
and the studio has continued under the artistic direction of April Wevodau and WDC Executive Board along with a
large staff of awesome teachers, assistants, and support staff! You can find out more about us on the Meet the Staff page.

In 2018 the studio moved from our location on Linda Lane to our location in Hampden Centre on the Carlisle Pike.

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our founding director, Carol Wevodau, on January 3, 2021. Though she is no longer walking with us on this earth, we know she is dancing free from the binds of Alzheimer's and watching over us from a better place. We extend our sincere condolences to her daughters, Christy and April, her husband, Larry, her family and Wevodau Dance Center's entire extended dance family, all of whom have been touched by Carol's zest for life. Dance free, Carol. Take your bow and encore. We will miss and love you always.
