-Feb 1, 2016: Very excited to announce the dates and schools for our 2016 Jazz in Schools presentations (March 14-16). Joining the group this year is Wetaskiwin raised Josh McHan on the bass. Josh has had immense success in music since leaving Wetaskiwin and we are happy to have him on board for the presentations.

-July 1, 2015:
The Jazz Society is very happy to bring on our newest Board member, Zach Ripka. See the Board of Directors tab on the right for his full biography.

-January 15, 2015:
Our annual Jazz-in-Schools presentations are just around the corner. See the tab on the right to see if we are coming to a community near you!

-August 1, 2014:
The 6 for the Wetaskiwin Jazz Society has come to an end and it was another fantastic one!  Thank you to all of the schools, students, parents and sponsors for making 2014 one of our best yet.

-April 30, 2014:
The early bird deadline to register for the Wetaskiwin Jazz Camp has been extended to May 9! See the Camp tab on the right for more info.

-February 1, 2014:
Registrations are now being accepted for the 2014 Wetaskiwin Jazz Camp happening July 6-11 in Wetaskiwin. Be sure to check out the Camp page to the right and register now to get the earlybird discount!

-January 1, 2014:
Happy New Year from everyone here at the Jazz Society! Be sure to check out Jazz Camp student Edwin de Goeij this month at the Camrose Country Opry. Also, our Jazz-in-Schools schedule is now finalized...see when we are coming to a school new you.

-September 1, 2013:
The Wetaskiwin Jazz Society is very happy to announce that Juno-nominated vocalist Karin Plato (from Vancouver) will the the Special Guest Artist for the 2014 Wetaskiwin Jazz Camp. The camp will be July 6-11 at Grace Lutheran Church.

Thank you to all of the schools that participated in Jazz-in-Schools last week! What a fantastic time of learning and sharing about jazz in rural Alberta. In other news the Hutchinson Andrew Trio (all faculty from our Summer Jazz Camp) are performing in Wetaskiwin at the United Church on March 21 at 7pm!

September 29-October 2 is Arts Days all across AB.  Many different celebrations of all the arts will be happening in over 70 centres in the province.  The Wetaskiwin events are being coordinated by the City Library: http://www.wetaskiwinpubliclibrary.ab.ca/ and in Camrose: http://www.camrose.ca/index.aspx?NID=140.  WJC Faculty Kodi Hutchinson and Karl Schwonik will be giving workshops on September 28 / 29 at Clear Vista School.

: Congratulations to WJS President and Artistic Director Karl Schwonik on being appointed to the Board of Directors for the Alberta Foundation for the Arts!  This is a 3 year appointment and is a great honour for both him and the Wetaskiwin Jazz Society: www.affta.ab.ca

Our 3rd jazz camp has just finished and it was a resounding success!  The students were amazing once again and the faculty were inspiring.  Thank you to everyone who was a part of this special year and supported us.  The 2012 Wetaskiwin Jazz Camp will be July 8-13, 2012 in Wetaskiwin.  We are very excited to announce multiple Grammy nominee Rogério Boccato from Brazil/NYC as our Special Guest Artist!

-July 4, 2011:
Very happy to announce that President Karl Schwonik's 2nd CD, 1+4, has just been nominated for a Western Canadian Music Award in the 'Jazz Recording of the Year' category!! This is the 2nd year in a row one of his CDs has been nominated.  http://breakoutwest.ca/awards/  This group will be performing next week in Red Deer, Wetaskiwin and Grande Prairie!

Pioneer Days update: The Jackson Six will be playing on the music stage (by city Hall) in Wetaskiwin on Saturday, June 11 at approx. 1pm!  Also, there will be a special guest by Karl Schwonik....come out and support these wonderful musicians and celebrate the City of Wetaskiwin!

- February 26, 2011:
Jazz-in-Schools tour 2011 has just wrapped up and it was a resounding success!  The faculty from the Wetaskiwin Jazz Camp visited 10 different schools all around central Alberta to great smiling faces and roaring applause.  Thanks to everyone who made this event possible and we look forward to meeting many new students in 2012!

CONCERT Announcement!  Sunday, January 9, 2011.  7pm. Reynolds Alberta Museum, Wetaskiwin. $10 or $25 for families: tickets at the door.
The Karl Schwonik Quartet (faculty from the Wetaskiwin Jazz Camp) comes to town to perform once again!  This group was recently nominated for a Western Canadian Music Award in the 'Jazz Recording of the Year' category!  We are very excited to feature our 2010 Camp Scholarship winner Rob Patterson and the Jackson Quintet (students from the Wetaskiwin Jazz Camp) at this event.  www.karlschwonik.com.

- October 27, 2010: Congratulations to Wetaskiwin Jazz Camp Faculty member Chris Andrew for being named one of Edmonton's 'Top 40 under 40' by Avenue magazine!  This marks two years in a row a WJC faculty member has been named to a Top 40 list.  Director Karl Schwonik held the honour in 2009 in Calgary.  www.avenuemagazine.com

- September 5, 2010: the students of the Wetaskiwin Jazz Camp will be performing on September 11 in Wetaskiwin!  They will be performing at 1pm for the inagural Wetaskiwin Arts and Agriculture Festival.  Check the 'Events in the Community' page for more details.

- August 1, 2010: Karl Schwonik and the faculty from the 2010 Wetaskiwin Jazz Camp have completed there 8-city tour and new CD recording!  The new CD, featuring Montréal legend Rémi Bolduc, will be released in January 2011 on Chronograph Records.  Thanks also to the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and the Canada Council for the Arts for making this tour possible.

- July 17, 2010: Congratulations to all of the students at this year's Wetaskiwin Jazz Camp.  We are happy to announce that this year's scholarship winner, taking home a full tuition scholarship for next year's camp, is Rob Patterson.  Great job, Rob!
