Tournaments/Winter Soccer

Tournaments are a great way for players of all ability levels to build their skills. There are many different tournaments and some cater specifically to town teams, like Westwood that field travel teams in the BAYS soccer league. Tournaments usually offer different ability brackets as well so that you can find a match for your team.

Players from different Westwood teams may come together on the roster of a tournament team. This is fun for the kids to get to play with some of their friends who may not be on their regular travel team.

Here is a link to the Mass Youth Soccer website listing of tournaments. Feel free to contact your WYS age group coordinator or the director of coaching if you have more questions about putting a team into a tournament.

If it is a patch tournament, please contact our equipment coordinator at equipment@westwoodsoccer.org far enough ahead to get your supply of patches.

Also, do not forget to let our field coordinator know that you are canceling your game if it is a home game.

WYS Tournament/Indoor Soccer Subsidies

To encourage more soccer year-round, the Board of Westwood Youth Soccer voted to use funds to subsidize the cost of additional soccer activities for our registered players.

WYS will now pay a subsidy to affiliated coaches who enter teams in tournaments or indoor soccer/futsal leagues to partially offset the cost for our players participating in these activities.

Subsidy parameters include:

  • All Coaches must be affiliated with WYS for the current soccer year (fall-spring) to ensure that they have cleared CORI, completed concussion training, and are affiliated with MYSA for insurance.
  • ALL players must be affiliated with WYS for the current soccer year (fall-spring).
  • Coaches should ask all members of their current team to participate first, and then fill any open spots with other WYS players to allow all players the chance to participate.

Subsidy Amounts: A stipend can be used only once by a coach per age/gender group per soccer year (fall-spring) and should count toward all rostered players equally.

  • $500/team to enter a fall or spring MYSA sanctioned tournament:  Here is a link to the MYSA tournament page:
  • $500/team to play in an indoor soccer league
  • $350/team to play in a futsal league

  • Submit proposed team roster to WYS Treasurer treasurer@westwoodsoccer.org listing players in alphabetical order and all coaches.
  • Treasurer will validate roster and issue check directly to tournament site or league. This is much preferred than reimbursement.
  • If the coach has prepaid for the tournament or league, a copy of the receipt should be provided to the Treasurer and then a check reimbursement will be issued. A copy of an email to all your players describing the distribution of the WYS subsidy must be provided in this case.

Good luck to all the teams!
