AMH NIGHT
Tuesday, Nov 14th from 6pm to 7:30pm:  At the AMH store, there will be AMH staff on hand as well as Coach Anson to help you pick out any skis, boots, poles, ski clothing you might need for the season. AMH will be offering extra discounts on select items (in addition to your normal team discount). There will also be pizza, so stop by Tuesday evening!

YOGA
If you did not fill out the waiver for yoga/spinning for Monday, please print out a copy from our website (https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=sites&srcid=ZGVmYXVsdGRvbWFpbnx3ZXN0c2tpdGVhbXxneDo0MGZhYTU0YWFjN2VhYzQ1).
Due to class size restrictions we will have to limit the number of people who go over every Monday. Don't worry, we will have a plan so everyone has the opportunity to go many times over the course of the season!

CLOTHING ORDERS
November 15 is the deadline for all clothing orders. If you still need to place a clothing order (jackets, hoodies, hats, wind briefs, etc.), please contact Wendy Gellert (wendy.gellert@gmail.com).

POTLUCK FOLLOW-UP
Thanks to everyone that showed up for the potluck last Thursday. If you didn't get a chance to sign up to volunteer, please see the link here on the website.
A big thanks to everyone that donated to the booster club! The booster club funds pay for ski wax, yoga classes, gear, snacks, heat for race day (yay!!), and other necessities not covered by ASD. If you still wish to donate, please contact Joey Eski, Booster Club treasurer at jeski@gci.net.

Important Lynx Loppet Updates!!!!!!!1!!!

posted Dec 7, 2017, 5:26 PM by Anson Moxness   [ updated Dec 7, 2017, 5:28 PM ]

Here’s the plan everyone! Please read all of this, this is in place of our pre-race meeting today.

Friday

Assuming school is still on, you will all meet Charlie and Karina in the ski room after 2nd hour and grab classic gear and head out to the races. Make sure you look at the start list in the ski room or posted up at Kincaid for your bib number and start time. Also take a look at the course map and preview the course if you can. I have attached course maps and start list to this post.

Coaches and volunteers will be waxing your skis down in the stadium by the big orange tent. Please bring down your skis 2 to 2.5 hours before your start time to get kick wax.  Our goal is for you to have ski ready to go try 45 minutes before your start, but if we get backed up, don’t stress, we’ll get it done! There won’t be a lot of places for you to test kick wax, but we’ll do your best.

If you are able to wax at home I would suggest a warm wax with a hardener if you have it. Swix CH8 with a cold powder, CH7 if you don’t have cold powder, or a Toko Red would work too. Also if you are able to clean skis at home, that would help us out. If you can’t do one or both of those things, don’t worry about it.

Remember to get a good warm up in. That may mean bringing some running shoes and going for a jog on the multiuse trail to get your body moving.

Friday night spaghetti feed will be at Ryann’s house: 2727 Illiamna Dr at 6pm

Hosts will provide pasta and sauce. Please bring a dish to share based on your last name:
Desserts: A-G
Drinks: H-K
Salads: L-O
Breads: P-Z

Theme TBA

If there is no school on Friday we will not race on Friday. Details for Saturday would be to be announced later.

Saturday

Saturday’s race is a pursuit start for many of the team. The races will be split into Girls and Boys A and Girls and Boys B. Everyone from B-F teams will be combined into one sheet and the top 100 of those will race in the B races. A team will have their own race and aren’t counted in that 100. The pursuit start means that your start time is your time behind the winner from Friday’s race. For example if you finish 1 minute 52 seconds behind the winner on Friday, first place from Friday will start at time 0:00 and you will start at time 1:52. It all goes fast so just have your head up as people are starting.

For those in the top 100 or who didn’t race Friday, there will be a community race at around 1:45. It is super fun, and with enough encouragement you might get some coaches to race too.

Race starts for Saturday will be

11:00 B Girls

11:45 B Boys

12:30 A Girls

1:15 A Boys

1:45 Community Race

Awards after

Buses for Saturday:

9:00 Departure B Boys and Girls

10:00 Departure A Girls and Boys and Community Racers

Please arrive 15-20 minutes early so we can depart on time.

WEST CROSS COUNTRY SKI TEAM -
2017 BOYS & GIRLS REGION & STATE CHAMPS

END OF SEASON POTLUCK & AUCTION!
When: Tuesday, February 28th, 6-9 PM (come early if you can help set up)
Where:  Kincaid Chalet
Who: All skiers & parents
What to Bring: Bring your favorite potluck dish to share. Plates and utensils will be provided and Bear Tooth will be supplying some pizza.

This evening is a night for the kids to celebrate their successes and to make some money for the team! The income from this fundraiser is truly a "boost" to our team--allowing us to pay for things like uniforms, loaner ski gear, waxing equipment, tents and yoga lessons at practices. There will be lots of silent auction items and also special adventures or parties, such as Tres Amigos Spring Feast, Moroccan Dinner Party, Wine and Cheese Party, and more! Cash donations will also be accepted. If you have items to donate for the silent auction, please contact Jen Gordon at 907-240-0206 or jengordonmom@gmail.com.

Please look for a separate email from Jen Gordon with a preview of auction items so you can plan ahead!

Tour of Anchorage - West Aid Station--Please help!
The Tour will be Sunday, March 5th.  The high school ski teams each have an aid station along the course.  This is a fund raiser for the team but it also helps out the Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage which does SO much to support the high school ski teams and local nordic skiing.

West’s station is at Westchester Lagoon.  We are looking for parents and skiers to volunteer at the aid station. We will have 2 shifts: 8:45 AM - 11:15 AM and 11:00 AM - 1:30 PM.  Please contact Frank Mitchell at Frank.Mitchell@bp.com if you can help

Uniform and Ski Gear Return
Thanks to everyone that returned their uniforms and gear last Saturday. The next (and FINAL) return date is Tuesday, March 21st (after Spring Break) at 2 PM in the West ski room. Uniforms must be returned WASHED (please line dry them!). This day will also be the last day to remove all personal gear from the ski room.

If there is a special case for a skier to keep their gear after March 21st, the skier will need to give Coach Anson a written note advising what they are holding onto and when it will be returned.  Fines slips will be going out for any uniforms and loaner skis not returned by March 21st without a written note.  Last year, we were chasing skiers to return gear until late April – this is an unproductive use of volunteer hours.
Please note that we will not be accepting any uniform or ski returns at the end of season dinner on Tuesday the 28th, since this year’s dinner is at the Kincaid Chalet.
