Ages 7-12 Purple Restrictor Plate, Ages 12-15 No Restrictor Plate Rules

The intention of these rules is to make a fair and affordable racing class for kids.  Emphasis is placed on driver and setup not who has the hottest engine or most expensive clutch. Money is better spent on practice and seat time.  WMKC rules are meant to be kept simple to avoid “the gray areas” of a more complex rule book.

If it is not listed in the below rules it is illegal to have or use.

Do not confuse these with WKA classes. These are not WKA RULES.

Note: 2019 class weights subject to change in order to equalize performance of 196cc Clone Motor and Briggs L206 Motor.

Class age and class weight allowed

Purple Clone Ages 7 – 12*. Age as of Jan 1, 2019 is the age you may race for the 2019 season. Weight of kart and driver is 265 LBS minimum** as weighed on the ELKT scale after each points race.  This class is designed for new beginning racers or racers needing more experience and track time. The purple plate is after the carb in the intake. A .500” restrictor along with two marked gaskets (one on each side of the plate) will be provided by RMPKC. A $10 deposit is required. All three parts are a tech item with go / no go gauge.

JR Clone Ages 12-15*.  Age as of Jan 1, 2019 is the age you may race for the 2019 season.  This class is for experienced and or race director approved. Weight of kart and driver (as raced, including helmet, neck collar, and clothing) combined at end of each race for class is 315 LBS minimum** as weighed on the ELKT scale after each points race. No intake restrictor required.  

*Track Director may allow at his/her discretion, a younger or older driver to compete in a different class, depending on one’s ability and other factors considered by track director. Action to be documented and filed with club secretary to be official.

**The club may choose to change weight minimum as deemed necessary for fairness of competition.

Driver Equipment

  1. Helmet must be full faced with shield, in good condition, and designed for competitive motorsports.  No motocross style with goggles will be permitted.  A sticker on the inside of the helmet will indicate if it is of usable design. Helmet must be of correct fit for driver as determined by tech personnel.

  3. Neck collar is mandatory – A device like the Valhalla 360 Plus is highly recommended.
  4. Gloves – full fingered design mandatory
  5. Chest and rib protector mandatory.  SFI Rib/Chest protectors, Anyone under 18 must have either Armadillo or Sparco  SFI style, no exceptions
  6. Jacket made of abrasion resistant material Leather, cordura nylon (designed for kart racing) mandatory. Full kart racing suit recommended
  7. Nomex or Proban suits or jackets may be worn on top of or inside of a jacket or suit made for karting
  8. Full length pants mandatory. Full kart racing suit recommended.
  9. Shoes mandatory – no sandals, no open shoes. High-top racing or karting shoes highly recommended.
  10. No “on person” body weights – all add-on weights must be fastened to kart

Safety / Kart numbering

  1. All add on weights must use a minimum 5/16” bolt and be double nut or single nut with cotter pin above the nut through the bolt. Weights must be painted white or be of bright color with kart number clearly readable
  2. All steering components / fasteners attached to the steering wheel must be safety wired, including wheel, steering shaft, tie rods, spindles, and spindle bolts.
  3. All brake components / fasteners must be safety wired or cotter pinned, including pedal, master cylinder, caliper, and rotor. Brakes must be in good working condition.
  4. Throttle pedal must be safety wired or cotter pinned.
  5. Snap rings on end of rear axle must be safety wired or pinned so that sprocket hub cannot slide off.
  6. Axle cannot extend past the rim face.
  7. Gauges allowed but MUST be out of sight of the driver or covered.
  8. Kart number: minimum of three at least 5″ tall, one on front nose bodywork and one on each side of side panels. Must be clearly visible by scoring personnel.
  9. Fire extinguisher is required. Each entrant must have a minimum of one operable 1-1/2 pound dry-powder fire extinguisher (rated for use on A, B, & C. type fires) in their pit area and must be brought to pre-tech. Carbon Dioxide type extinguishers are not acceptable substitutes for the dry-powder type.
  10. All driver’s equipment must be in good condition and be presented at pre-tech.

Clone Purple and JR Clone Engine Rules

  1. Engines must be purchased from WMKC. Cam options: stock or Dyno Cam CL-1 can be ordered. Only WMKC sealed spec engines are allowed in these classes. See a club officer for current market pricing.
  2. Engine must be sealed at all times. Two WMKC seals must be intact and visible at all times. One seal through side cover locating pin and one seal through cylinder head fin to cylinder block fin. WMKC to manage, issue, and record motor seals numbers, checked annually or as deemed necessary.
  3. It is the responsibility of each race team to ensure that kart is raced with seals intact. Any motor raced with a tampered or missing seal will forfeit points (zero points given and not eligible as a drop) for the race(s) entered with tampered or missing seals.
  4. Any motor parts requiring seal removal (i.e., cylinder head gasket and side cover gasket) must be purchased through the club. Seal removal and part replacement must be performed in the presence of 2 club officers and resealed after.
  5. JR clone class, no intake restrictor required, all other clone motor rules apply.
  6. Purple Clone class will have one stock, unaltered gasket as provided by WMKC on each side of the restrictor plate. Gaskets are available for purchase from WMKC at current market price. Intake restrictors are to be unaltered, and must be as originally manufactured. Restrictor plate must be flat and placed between carburetor and intake and sealed within gasket area. Addition of material or funneling of gaskets not allowed. Any attempt to bypass or modify restrictor is prohibited.  Anodizing may not be removed from restrictor plate. Tech official may compare competitor’s plate to a known stock plate to determine legality.
  7. Restrictor plate color and size; purple .500” stamp serial number is found on each tab
  8. One only, stock unaltered intact gasket must be between cylinder head and insulator plate (carb mount plate). This gasket will be provided by WMKC and is a marked gasket.
  9. Gaskets and restrictor plates are tech items, measured with go / no go gauge or dial calipers, compared to a stock, known part.
  10. Exhaust: Header part number RLV 5438C with unaltered RLV silencer WKAS1516 (B91XL)
  11. Header must have header wrap from mount flange towards muffler, completely covering the header tube. An additional heat shield attached to chain guard is recommended. A header brace is not included but is mandatory. Safety wire through the header screen to header bracket is recommended.
  12. Air filter: AFR-175 clone angled air filter, 3 1/2″ diameter x 4″ long, 2 7/16″ hole. No modifications to air filter internals. Outerwears pre-filter covers allowed. Rain shields or covers allowed during wet conditions only.
  13. Stamped steel filter adapter only, part number KM195
  14. Stock rockers are marked and issued by WMKC. No alterations, welded, hardened, or corrected rockers allowed. Rockers to be checked on RMPKC go / no go gauge.
  15. Springs non tech on height. Max wire diameter .072″ checked with go / no go gauge or dial caliper. Spring retainers are non tech.
  16. Stock length push rods + .005” of stock length, [5.260” is stock length]
  17. Flywheel will be ARC 6619 billet or approved billet steel mandatory. As of October 2013 most OEM flywheels will have 8° timing built in for an advanced timing of 32°. Previously purchased ARC 6619 flywheels are at the stock 24°.  Timing will no longer be a tech item. You are allowed offset flywheel keys. For example purchase of ARC DJ 2172-8 offset key will advance the flywheel timing to match new ARC 6619 flywheels. NO adjustable flywheel timing hubs allowed, must have a fixed keyed set up, this will be a tech item to check that there is no adjustable flywheel hub. Call or email a club official if you need help.
  18. Ignition system (coil) to remain stock as produced, no modification. Spark plug open, non tech.
  19. Oil open, no hot additives. Burn test can be performed
  20. No porting to engine.
  21. $180 motor claim rule with stock cam, $220 if motor has a Dyno CL-1 cam allowed. Claim does not include any external aftermarket bolt on parts including the clutch, exhaust system, engine mount, chain guard, fuel pump, throttle linkage assembly, filter cup, top plate or billet flywheel. Cash payment to owner of the motor claimed immediately by claimer to motor owner. Alternatively, claimer can write a check to WMKC, WMKC to pay owner of the motor by cash or club check. Seals will be immediately removed from motor by club official; motor will become illegal to run in purple clone, or JR clone classes at WMKC point events. Motor can be used in Super Clone.


  1. Stock clone carburetor only, no alterations, no blue printed carbs. Jet size is open, non tech
  2. Fuel pump pulse may be done from valve cover if you are not using stock air filter
  3. Unaltered stock emulsion tube allowed, Comet pn DJ-168F-46 stock clone carburetor emulsion tube  no modifications allowed
  4. Walbro/ Mikuni/ Briggs fuel pumps are the only allowed fuel pumps.
  5. Jet change is allowed, and is included with the carb swap.
  6. A track director’s discretion, 1st place in the feature, will swap carb with another position as directed by tech official or track director, carbs are swapped AS RACED
  7. No modifications other than jet size change allowed.


  1. All Clone Purple and JR Clone classes will use 87 Octane Fuel
  2. No Additives allowed in the Fuel

Clutch and Gearing  

  1. #35 chain, 14T clutch – #35 56T axle sprockets only, you will be DQ’ed for any other gear ratio
  2. Spec clutch is Max Torque Box Stock/Clone clutch MT-SS1434IK with black springs, 14 tooth #35 chain driver sprocket only
  3. Rear sprocket, 56 tooth #35 chain only, no skip tooth sprockets

Tires and wheels

  1. Tires, MG 5” Red only. 460 fronts and 600 rears. Must be purchased from ELKT.
  2. Wheel width size open
  3. 5" Rain Tires to be used in Rain Races.  MG Tire is NOT Required for Rain Tire.
  4. All purple clone and JR clone class karts will have a tire circumference maximum to be determine during the season. This will be a tech procedure.  This is to avoid people from stretching the tire to change gear ratio.

Bumpers and Bodywork

  1. Full Width Rear Bumper is mandatory, either Hoop Style Metal Bumper or CIK Plastic Bumper Style.  Hoop Style Metal Bumper must cover at least 1/2 of each rear tire, must have rounded ends.  CIK Style Bumpers must conform to current WKA CIK Bumper Rules.  Any other bumper style will require the approval of the Permanent Race Director, or in the event there is no permanent race director, approval by Majority Vote of the Current Club Board prior to racing.
  2. Full Nose/Gold Cup Nose cone Preferred but CIK Nose Cone is also Legal.  Side Panels or Side Pods required.  Nose cone and side panels mandatory [minimum height from ground 12″] cannot be angled or shovel type. Must have minimum 6″ vertical front as measured from the ground.
  3. Steering fairings securely fastened in safe manor on the steering column. Must have minimum distance of 3” from steering wheel to fairing beginning edge. Steering column fairing allowed if it does not interfere with drivers’ vision. Plexiglas not allowed
  4. Should any bodywork become loose, fall off, etc. during a race, it is at the race director’s discretion to allow continued racing or black flag the driver


  1. Seat must be mounted in a safe manor.  From the back top of seat to ground no lower than 12″.  Back top edge of seat cannot be past the center line of the rear axle
  2. Max rear tread width 50″
  3. Working rear disc brakes mandatory
  4. Weights, painted white or chromed with kart number clearly readable.  A 5/16” minimum diameter bolt, must be securely fastened by either double nut or single nut and safety pinned. No loose weights allowed. Should a weight fall off the kart during a racing event, the kart / driver must meet the class weight, if not, forfeit of points for that race only applies 


Starting position is determined by a blind draw for the first heat.  Lowest number in the class drawn starts on pole for the first heat.  Then the starting order is inverted for the second heat.  For the feature the highest earned points for the day starts on the pole. If there is a point’s tie for feature starting positions the tie breaker is the draw for the day.  Low draw wins the position. Heats and feature 1st =10 pts 2nd = 9 pts, 3rd = 8, 4th = 7, 5th = 6, 6th = 5, 7th = 4, 8 = 3, 9 =2 and all positions after 9th get 1 point. Any points questionable by a competitor must be given in writing to a club official within the week between the questionable race and next point’s race. Request for points review will be reviewed before the start of the next point’s race. At the start of the next point’s race, all points will be final.

Rule(s) Violation Appeal

Should any competitor be found to have or be in violated any of the club or track rules, he or she shall have one appeal to club officers to review the violation. Club officers, consisting of president, vice president, and secretary will review the matter and will have the final decision to uphold, override, or cancel the violation. Decision to be made within 2-3 days after written request for review from competitor.


  1. Items to be teched for the day will be called by tech official randomly any time during a point’s race day.
  2. Tech items to be determined by roll of a pair of dice by either the tech official or the asking by tech official of a competitor.
  3. Minimum of two tech-able line numbers to be rolled, tech official may ask for additional roll(s) for additional line number(s).
  4. Roll of a pair of dice determines the line number as referenced at “tech items and tech method” numbers 2 through 12.  Must continue the roll to have two separate line numbers determined.
  5. Entire kart as raced including driver equipment must be rolled into tech area direct from, and after scaling. Tech area is the marked off area, driver or crew member(s) must leave the marked off area, kart to be left alone.
  6. Tech official will tech one kart at a time with either the driver and/or one parent or crew member of the driver in private. After tech, kart if released by tech official, will be removed completely away from tech area.
  7. Any violation(s) will be noted in the club’s tech book, written violation(s) given to competitor. Tech official will give copy of violation(s) to club officers; any violation(s) will result in loss of points for that race or the entire race day. Competitor will be notified no later than 2-3 days after tech is complete of results
  8. At any time during tech, any tech-able rule(s) visually seen, including motor, chassis, or driver equipment can be checked and included for violation(s)

Tech items and tech method / procedure

  1. Carburetor, including emulsion tube, and intake restrictor plate. Carburetor to intake mounting nuts. Minimum torque to be 50 inch pounds on each nut. Check using club torque wrench set to 50 inch pounds must see indicator at 50 inch pounds or click of torque setting. Purple clone class and blue clone class restrictors as issued by WMKC. Checked with go / no go gauge. An WMKC intake gasket one before and one after restrictor plate. Check that gaskets are WMKC marked intact and unaltered. Cylinder head intake gasket. Check for one only WMKC marked unaltered intact stock gasket
  2. Fuel pump. Visual check to be Walbro, Mikuni, or Briggs brand fuel pumps
  3. Exhaust. Either box stock or RLV 5438C with RLV silencer WKAS1516 (B91XL.
  4. Header wrapped from cylinder head mounting bracket down header pipe to silencer a minimum of 6” tightly wrapped and no spaces between wraps. Header / Silencer. Un-altered, exception is altered due to on track racing incident.
  5. Air filter. As factory produced no additional holes anywhere on filter or adapter. After market Comet Kart Sales pn AFR-175 clone angled air filter, 3 1/2″ diameter x 4″ long, 2 7/16″ hole or equivalent allowed. Dyno Cams air filter adapter for Clone w/ choke bracket pn CL-2541, or, Comet Kart Sales ($14.95) clone filter adapter allowed. No modifications to air filter internals. Remove air filter visual inspection inside for alterations
  6. Rocker arms. Checked with go / no gauge. Valve spring wire diameter. Checked with dial caliper or go / no go gauge, maximum allowed diameter .072” random area checks. Push rods. Checked with dial caliper , or tech gauge, length to be 5.260” + .005” allowed
  7. Flywheel. ARC 6619 or billet steel only allowed. Visual check with pull starter off. Visually check that flywheel does not have an adjustable hub.
  8. Ignition. Visual check, with blower cover removed, coil to be stock and unaltered
  9. Gearing. Clutch driver #35 14T and rear sprocket #35 56T. Visual count of teeth check. Rear tires. Not to exceed 34.375” outer circumference. Tire to be cleaned of dirt, gravel, track rubber; tire aired up to 16 PSI. Check with club air gauge to be 16 PSI, circumference check with ¼” wide club tape, measurement cannot exceed 34.375” at center of the tire.
  10. Seat Placement. Check with kart on asphalt / concrete or similar hard flat surface, surface to top of seat no lower than 12”. Top of seat equal to or forward of rear axle center line.  Check with minimum .0625” diameter flexible string / line, one end tied to .500” I.D. standard steel washer, top of line over seat top edge, washer hangs down to minimum of .250” above rear axle.
