Our Setting

The setting compromises four classrooms and an outdoor courtyard linking to large grassed garden. With our holistic approach children spend a great deal of time learning outside or on visits in the local community. We work along side the development matters framework (EYFS, 2014) in an all-inclusive practice. This framework has been adopted throughout reception classes nationally and takes into account the work of major theorist and pioneers like Piaget, Vygotsky and Maria Montessori. Children learn through their play which is both free-flow and structured. We are registered as a full day care and educational pre-school, open Monday-Friday for children aged 3 months-12 years throughout the year.

Children all have an individual learning plan and portfolio which our staff team endeavor to ensure they have a broad and exciting range of experiences. This allows children to engage in play and explore, motivating and interesting them to learn.

From research like the EPPE report, children who have the best foundation care and education have better outcomes at GCSE level even if their Primary schooling was inadequate.  Children also are better equipped when the setting is led  by a EYP or QTS. Here at West Hill Nursery School reports from the UNCRC and early years research drives us forward for every child's best start and to continually assess quality.
