Kettlebells are a steel ball with a handle, ranging in weight from 4 - 64kg+. You may see kettlebell sizes referred to as poods, a pood is 16.3 kgs. So a 16kg kettlebell = 1 pood, 24 kg = 1 1/2 pood and a 32 = 2 pood.

Traditionally, in Russian culture, kettlebells are referred to as girya and kettlebell users as gireviks.

First reference to kettlebells dates back to the 1700s where they were used in Russian agriculture as a weight for produce, it hasnt been until the late 90s early 00s that kettlebells have become popular in the western world as a training tool.
