About Counselling

Counselling can be short-term, or long-term.  Psychotherapeutic counselling tends to be longer term as it involves looking at issues from your past which may be contributing to present difficulties.

Counselling offers a safe and confidential place to talk about your life, and anything which may be confusing painful or uncomfortable.  You will be talking to someone who is trained to listen attentively, with compassion, and who will not judge you, but will help you to improve things.  Sometimes the talking can bring up painful feelings and it can feel difficult to carry on.  If you can do so, though, it is worth the effort as you can be helped to work through problems.

We will work together to try to understand what has caused your difficulties. The therapeutic relationship is central to the process. Research suggests that this may be the most powerful ingredient of all in achieving a successful outcome.
