Phonics / PinYin Classes

 

Tonality

Pre-school (3 to 4-year-olds)

Children will learn how to say and recognize Chinese characters for shapes, numbers, colors, and their own names and genders while having fun and playing games

Pre-school (4 to 5-year-olds)

Students will begin to learn how to read and write Chinese phonetic symbols in both Zhuyin and Pinyin, while emphasize on learning the difference in tonality

Kindergarten

Kindergarteners will learn about initials (like consonants in English) and finals (like vowels in English) and how they are used together to pronounce Chinese words.

Vocabulary

1st grade

The 1st year curriculum include learning how to say numbers and build basic Chinese vocabulary such as names of body parts, nursery rhymes, years, months, object sizes, and spatial location. Students will be able to say simple greetings, pleasantries, and introduce themselves.

2nd grade

The 2nd year students will learn the origin and evolution of the Chinese charters, Chinese calendar, Spring Festival (New Year) and the story of Nian. Students will also hear stories about Chinese Zodiac based on 12 animals; learn fables, riddles, tongue twisters, and Chinese calligraphy using writing brushes.

3rd grade

Beginning in 3rd grade, students will learn to recognize Chinese punctuations and radicals from texts that include various Chinese folklore

s and familiar American tradition such Halloween and carving pumpkins.

4th grade

Students will learn Chinese children’s stories and nursery rhymes, traditional Chinese holiday such as the Dragon Boat Festival, traditional Chinese cooking and how to make dumplings. Children will hear humorous stories, be introduced to the planets and stars.

Conversation

5th grade

Curriculum will include learning Chinese through fun folklores, short stories, poems and conversation. Students will learn about Chinese baseball teams, good eating habits, Chinese and American horticulture, and Western holidays (Christmas) celebrated in China.

6th grade

Students will be Introduced to Chinese music and musical instruments, and the Great Wall of China. Students will learn Chinese desktop publishing, and other computer courses that can help improve their Chinese.

7th grade

Curriculum includes history of China, important Chinese inventions such as gunpowder, firework and paper, the Opium War, Chinese myths and folklores. Students will also learn about Chinese medicine and acupuncture, Chinese food and restaurant dining. Students will also begin preparation for SAT Chinese.

8th grade

Students will learn about traditional Chinese sports, holidays, zodiac signs, poets and poems. Additional topics include western influence of Chinese words and characters, name brand merchandise, prices, and the art of haggling and price negotiations.

SATAP Topics study

9th grade

Curriculum will transition from inside the classroom to the outside world; students will learn about career change, relocation, going away to school and transfers, volunteer or professional work in developing areas, and how personal character and integrity will contribute to success in life. Students will also learn about Chinese dynasties, operas, and Qigong for personal health.

10th to 12th grades

Students will learn the evolution of the Chinese characters, have opportunities to read relevant and current articles in Chinese, discuss and debate their own topics of interest, read and write short stories, listen to and compose popular music, and continue to prepare for SAT Chinese.

Children Painting

Students will learn the basics of drawing and sketch techniques, which include concepts of shape, line, texture and color mixing. Students need to bring drawing pencils/crayons/coloring pencils to the class.

Folk Dancing              Age 5+

The class emphasizes traditional Chinese folk dances. This is not a competition-oriented class. Students should wear soft shoes.
 

Keyboard

Teach the basic keyboard skill. Students must have to access the piano or keyboard for practice.

Teach daily Chinese conversation.

English Conversation

Daily conversation, including order food, asking for directions, handles money, basic vocabulary usage for every day purpose.

音能力

幼小班

在具有多年教学经验的老师带动下,结合活泼生动的教学与游戏,幼小班的学童,将学习以中文说出形状、数字、颜色、姓名和性别等日常生活用语。

幼中班

从幼中班开始,学童在结合系统性的学习与启发性的游戏中,练习读写注音符号(汉语拼音)。课程中并加入四声与轻声,为学童日后辨别声调与正确发音打下基础。

幼大班

承接幼中班语音教学的基础,老师将由浅入深的指导幼大班的学童,逐步练习结合注音符号(或汉语拼音)。课程中采取趣味性的方式,带领孩子轻松完成进阶课程。

词能力

一年级

一年级课程,根据美洲地区六岁至八岁学童的认知层面和生活体验,教导学童数字与基本量词、认识五官及双手,并结合童谣及儿歌,让学童在有乐趣的环境中,学会一年十二个月、大小与位置,并能自我介绍及结交朋友。

二年级

二年级课程,是以美洲地区小学二年级学生各项学科的知识水平和对生活的体验,用象形字的由来一文来介绍中国文字。课程中并加入绕口令、谜语和年的故事,进一步教导学生认识中国文化,如春节、十二生肖和中国毛笔的典故暨由来。

三年级

三年级开始,将加强认字与读字能力,并教导学童如何使用字典。除认识基本标点符号外,课程里还结合了嫦娥奔月、猴子捞月、南瓜灯笼及万圣节等故事,让学生在浅显易懂的文字中,逐步了解字形和字义,并做看图造句的练习。

年级

四年级的课程内容,将以贴近生活、诙谐有趣的方式,结合温馨童诗、感恩节、传统面食水饺的制作过程、端午节的由来、北极星、指南针等具人文性、富知识性的文章,让学生学生字、写造句,并练习查阅字典。

通能力

年级

五年级的课程,将以饶富趣味性和知识性的故事、短文、新诗和对话,如华人棒球队、中国花木兰及美国花木兰、健康的饮食习惯等,使学生沉浸于丰富的语言运用和有乐趣的学习情境中学习中文。除生字和造句练习,老师将引领学生对课文进行对话和深入的探讨练习。

年级

六年级的课程重心,将着重于学生的中文沟通能力。在老师的指导下,学生初步接触人文科学的课文,如万里长城,音乐与乐器,和计算机。并以相互对话的练习方式,来学习用中文表达自己的意思。

年级

七年级的学生将开始介绍简体字。课程中介绍China的由来、餐馆点菜、鸦片战争、认识中药及针灸、和准备SAT中文等。在老师的鼓励下,学生就日常生活中经常接触到的主题进行讨论,让学生借着彼此讨论来学习,进而强化中文的沟通能力。

八年级

八年级的课程,秉持着螺旋式的字词学习方式,由易而难;前面所学的字词将不断出现,从而让学生温故知新。此外,借着名牌商品与价值观、中文里的外来词、中国十二星座等课程内容,让学生就生活当中经常接触的主题进行讨论,并加强学生应用成语和常用语的口语表达能力。

SASATAP和专题讨论能力

年级

九年级的课程将从学生日常家庭生活、学校生活,扩展到社会生活和海外生活圈。老师除了介绍调职搬家转学、到外地发展等,将特别注重辅导学生通过SAT中文测验和AP中文考试。

年级~

二年级

承接九年级的学习重心,除辅导学生准备SAT,老师将介绍学生练习阅读报章杂志及书籍、散文选读及流行音乐欣赏,并进行专题讨论。

The 12-volumed Mei Zhou Chinese is suitable for students of Grades 1-12 learning Chinese for 2-4 hours a week. The focuses of the textbooks include phonetics, vocabulary, situation-oriented communications and human sciences. The applicable standards adopted for compilation include US national standards on teaching foreign languages (5C) and US standards on foreign language assessment. And the textbooks are connected with both US Chinese Advance Placement Program (AP) at senior high school and US college Chinese program.

《美洲華語》是全美中文學校聯合總會教育研究發展委員會為美洲地區1年級至12年級學生編寫出版的教材。《美洲華語》共12冊,適合每週上課2-4小時的中文學校學生使用,將與美國高中中文進階課程(Chinese Advance Placement Program,簡稱AP) 和美國大學的中文教學相銜接。《美洲華語》,是以美國外語教學標準(Standards for foreign language learning, 5C)、美國外語評鑒規範(National Assessment Educational Progress Framework) 為準則,融合多元智慧(Multiple Intelligence)編寫而成。美國外語教學標準(5C): 1.培養溝通能力(communication) 2.體認中國文化與習俗(cultures) 3.貫連其他學科(connections) 4.比較中西文化特性(comparisons) 5.運用於實際生活(communities)。五大指標中的溝通又包括三個溝通模式(3 Mode):雙向溝通(Interpersonal),理解詮釋(Interpretive),表達演示(Presentational)。《美洲華語》各冊內容的選材,是以相應年級學齡學生的各科知識層面、生活經驗和對等程度的中國文化為主,用淺顯易懂的文字編寫成有趣的故事、短文和新詩和對話,將兒童文學、生活倫理、人文關懷、自然科學、歷史社會等中國和美國本土文化內容生動地體現出來,使學生能在輕鬆有趣的語文學習情境中學習,達到寓教於樂的目的。各冊課本、作業及輔助教材的設計,則特別注重學生在聽力理解、口語表達、閱讀理解、書寫和翻譯能力等方面的學習,以達到融入三種溝通模式,涵蓋多元智慧,從而達到“5C”外語教學標準。
