Gardens & Amusement Parks -

P.L. Deshpande Garden -

This is situated on Sinhgad Road just besides the Water Works Plant. It is open from morning 6 - 10 AM and 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Ticket is Rs. 5 for adult and enough parking space is available.

Katraj Zoo (Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park) -

Katraj Zoo & Snake Park is located near the Katraj Lake at the junction of NH 4 Bypass and Old Pune-Satara Road. It is right infront of Katraj Dairy or Katraj Bus Depot. Earlier, it was known as only the "Snake Park". Later, animals from the erstwhile Peshve Park were brought into this place and zoo was created.

It is home to pair of while tigers, Bengal tigers, leopards, bison, deers, snakes, crocs etc. Decent enough to amuse the kids.

Park is open from 10:30 AM till 6:00 PM and closed on Wednesdays. There is boating facility at the Katraj lake and MTDC restaurant inside the zoo. Battery operated cars were brought in to ferry the people inside park. Not sure if they are still operational. Ample parking is available outside the main gate.

Bhosari Sahal Kendra (Picnic Garden)

Huge garden with sitout / picnic areas, play equipment for the Kids, Balodyan, Replica of a Fort, Lake with an island and Dhyan Mandir, Boating, Water bodies (were not functioning when we visited), jogging track, amphitheater etc. Biggest attraction was a decent 10 min long Toy train ride  (for all ages) through the park with real ‘chug chug’ sound!

Park remains open from 12 – 8 PM everyday and train ride operates between 12-2 PM and 4 – 8 PM. While this park is quite old, garden is not in its best shape due to maintenance issues but if more people frequent the park, it would force the PCMC to take some corrective measures (e.g. Train ride was not functioning for several years. It started back again only last year with the new coaches and engine. You can still see the old rakes lying around).

Entry ticket is Rs. 10, Train Ride – Rs. 10 and Motor Boat ride is Rs. 20 pp.

How to Reach :
Whether you are coming from Pune or PCMC areas like Aundh-Wakad, Take the newly built Two-Story JRD Tata Flyover and join NH50 Pune Nasik Highway -> Travel straight till you reach Bhosari -> Exit before the start of Bhosari Flyover and drive parallel to the Flyover -> after some time, you will see “Ankushrao Landge Natyagruha” on your left -> Take adjacent lane to this theatre and you will reach the Sahal Kendra. Parking is available.

This is situated at the junction and illuminated at the night. So it can be visited any time. No restriction, no entry fee. There is a grand replica of Fort Entrance created at the junction having canons, soldiers etc. It is also illuminated in the night and there is a fountain as well. There is also a Tulaja Bhavani temple behind this gate.

How to Reach :

'Fort JADHAVGADH' (Built in 1710 by Pillaji Jadhavrao) is the first in a series of Heritage forts scheduled in Maharashtra and the Rest of India. Situated in the beautiful rolling hills located 22 km away from Pune on the old Pune – Satara Road at a height of 2511 ft above sea level Fort Jadhavgadh lies in the heart of the Jadhavwadi – a 25 acre land. The Fort a fine example of Maratha craftsmanship was built by Pillaji Jadhavrao. A man who himself was as strong in mind and body as the stone structure he envisioned to create. The man named Pilaji Jadhavrao - Maratha General in the army of Chatrapati Shahuji, proved his mettle each and every time someone dared to challenge the supremacy of the Maratha ruler.

This fort is now converted into finest hotel (there are only 2 palace hotels in Maharashtra - Shalini Palace at Kolhapur and now Fort Jadhavgadh near Saswad) and managed by Viththal Kamat group.
