Job Description


The Neil Hellman School is certified by the New York Department of Education as a special education facility serving residential and day students with serious emotional and behavioral disorders.  The school is comprised of elementary, middle, and high school programs and is authorized by New York State to award Regents, Local, and IEP Diplomas to its graduates.


The Neil Hellman School is looking for a Work-Based Learning Coordinator. This position’s primary role is to coordinate and provide transition and career development services to youth attending the Neil Hellman School. This position will review, organize and track all Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) data, and develop WBL experiences which are required for students to be granted a CDOS Commencement Credential.

The coordinator will work collaboratively with the leadership team and teachers to ensure the delivery of career and workforce development services and facilitate connections with parents, business/industry, post-secondary institutions, and community organizations to support students’ transition to post-secondary education and employment.


The Neil Hellman School provides educational services for youth living in residential care; day students referred to the school; and public school students with serious emotional, behavioral, and learning disabilities. The Neil Hellman School staff is infused with highly-trained, caring adults who are committed to the success of each individual student. School staff work in collaboration with social workers to address the students’ educational and therapeutic needs, as well as providing a range of vocational opportunities to develop skills for a successful future.  The school is located on our main campus at 60 Academy Rd Albany, NY 12208.



·       Develop skill acquisition assessment for all on and off campus student employees

·       Provide training and orientation to NHS student workers and job coaches

·       Act as a liaison with NHS staff and industry staff

·       Develop, organize and implement learning activities that ensure that students develop the job readiness skills outlined in the NYS CDOS Standards

·       Develop work-based learning experiences in and outside the traditional classroom environment

·       Provide CDOS instruction to NYS standards to children grades 6-12.

·       Support CDOS instruction grades K-5

·       Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials while adapting the curriculum to meet the needs of each student and subgroup of students.

·       Build knowledge base with stakeholders (NHS Staff, Community work-sites, parents, school districts, etc.) regarding what the CDOS credential means.

·       Maintain accurate records in accordance with NYS CDOS Standards

·       Oversee the development of individual student portfolios/capstone experiences for all students pursuing the CDOS Credential


Required Experience

·       Requires a Bachelor’s degree;

·       Two to five years related experience.

·       Requires SED Teacher Certification
