Understanding ESSA - NYS

Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)

On December 10, 2015, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was signed into law by President Obama. This bipartisan measure reauthorized the 50-year-old Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), the nation’s national education law. The New York State Education Department has established an ESSA Think Tank that will assist the New York State Education Department (NYSED or “the Department”) with development of New York’s ESSA state plan, which we anticipate that the Department will be required to submit to the United States Department of Education (USDE) in early 2017.   MORE......

Jeanine Gallina.......The New York State Education Department has released the survey regarding the High Concept Ideas developed by the ESSA Think Tank.  This is the website.  You may need to copy and paste it into the search bar.  Please complete the survey keeping in mind that this ESSA Plan is for the entire State of New York and for all of education.  When there is an area that needs to have CTE included, please make sure you mention it in the comment section.  This is our opportunity to have a voice.

Attached is the copy of the ESSA Open Regional Meetings.  Please plan on attending the meeting in your area so that CTE has a voice all across the state.  You will need to RSVP to attend the meeting so that there is plenty of room at the meeting site.  If you have any questions, please free to contact me either via email at or phone at 585-352-2459.

We are CTE and have a voice – let us be heard
