I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on the City’s Snow Removal efforts for January 7, 2010. The Transportation Division, along with other Public Works supporting divisions, and assistance from Community Development and Informatics Departments started plowing Primary, Secondary and Collector streets, main roads, this morning at 3:30 am. At that time, the large salt trucks stayed on the main roads plowing and applying salt. From 3;30 am until 1:30 pm this afternoon, the Snow Plowing Removal Team continued to address the Primary, Secondary, and Collector Streets. At 1:30pm, the Snow Plowing Removal Team converged on the streets around the Westfield Public Schools in an effort to aid in the safe dismissal of students via the Bus Transportation System and vehicular commuters. This effort was initiated by the Public Works Department and coordinated with Jack Hart, Director of the Westfield School Corporation Bus Transportation Facility.
Around 3:00pm, the Snow Plowing Removal Team continues to address the Primary, Secondary and Collector Streets in the highly traveled areas of the City in an effort to have these streets in good travel condition for the evening rush hour.
The Second Snow Plowing Removal Team will be assembling late this evening and early tomorrow morning to begin addressing Subdivision Streets. Once the snow has stopped accumulating, it should take the second team approximately 12 hours to plow the subdivision streets.
On Friday, after the second shift is completed, the third shift will conduct clean up and investigate concerns as submitted.
I hope this has been informative and will help to address any questions you, or your constituents, may have.
