This WebQuest asks students to explore the uses and effects of figurative language. For basic comprehension they will be called upon to define different figures of speech and provide examples. Then for deeper understanding, students are asked to recognize figures of speech in pre-existing text (song lyrics or a short story). Finally, students will internalize this knowledge through a creative exercise, writing their own song lyrics or short story using figurative language.
A student completing a WebQuest is like a knight embarking on a noble quest for knowledge. Figures of speech are spices used to add kick to what we say or write.
Did you recognize the figures of speech used in those sentences? We're going to use the web to explore different figures of speech. Then you will get a chance put this knowledge to use in a piece of your own creative writing.
