Biennial Competition Rules and How to Enter
Members may enter up to 2 PDIs and 2 Prints.
The theme for both PDIs & Prints is “Open”
There will be separate competitions for Advanced and Intermediate.
Images can be new (not previously entered in Club Competitions) or any image that has been entered in any WEBCC competition since the last biannual competition in May 2018. As long as the entry complies with this criteria it doesn’t matter when the image was taken.
Please remember the objective of the Annual Competition is show the best the club members have to offer, images will not be critiqued as in normal club competitions. Time permitting there will be a very short comment on each image.
The deadline for submitting electronic versions of your images (both for the PDI and Print competitions) will be Friday 27th March.
The deadline for bringing in your prints will be to the club meeting on 9th April.
Prints and PDIs must conform to normal competition rules. Backing board is mandatory on all print entries, you run the risk of having your image rejected if it lacks a properly secured backing board.
There will be a panel of 3 judges scoring your images on an electronic score pad (There are a different set of judges for each night). Each judge will score out of 10, so a maximum score would be 30.
In both sections of the competition, the judges will be asked to select the top images by awarding a Gold, Silver and Bronze, there will also be Highly Commended awards.
How to Enter
You can submit a maximum of 4 images in total : 2 for the PDI competition and 2 for prints. The PDIs for both competitions must be received by Friday 20th March.
They need to conform to normal competition rules and the PDI’s will need to be resized to 1600px by 1200px (Both maximum).
It is not possible to know in advance how many entries will be submitted. We have allowed for a maximum of around 90 images for each competition evening (PDIs & Prints). We therefore need members to specify which of their entries are 1st & 2nd preference. In the event that we are oversubscribed we may need to limit the number of entries to the specified 1st choice in a particular category, (Advanced or Intermediate) or medium (PDI or Print).
The file name for the images should be as follows “Print(or PDI)_Advanced (or Intermediate)_Preference_Title_Name” for example :-Print_Advanced_1st_Bamburgh Castle_John Massey.
PDIs must be emailed to me firstname.lastname@example.org. Don’t use the competition uploader. MAC users should make sure that the images are attached as “original” size.
After the 20th March you will be told how many of your entries have been accepted. This will enable you to prepare your prints for the competition.
Print preparation and mounting will need to comply with normal club rules. Labels will be required. You can use and adapt the standard competition labels. They must be affixed to the rear of the mount in the top left hand corner. Please make sure that the prints are mounted securely with a proper mount - they will go through a sorting and numbering process and we want them to be displayed in good condition on the night.
The deadline for bringing in your Prints is the club meeting on 9th April.
