Hearing aid Project

publicado a la‎(s)‎ 26 jun. 2012 16:22 por Raúl H. Sánchez

The project:
Hoa Lan School is a school for hearing-impaired children and is located in the Dong Nai province (45 minutes from HCMC). The boarding school is run by Catholic nuns. Up to 80 children in the age of 5 to 18 live in the boarding school on weekdays. Most of them have parents, but they are too poor or are living too far away for sending their children to a special school. In Vietnam the facilities for children with a hearing handicap are not a matter of course. Very often there is still a stigma on any handicap. This boarding school gives the children an opportunity to get a regular education and to learn sigh language.

Some of the kids on the boarding school are completely deaf, but a lot of them can be helped with a hearing aid! Good hearing aids are expensive, as they have to be tailor made. Depending on the function of the auditory of the child, the hearing aid is adapted with a numbers of auditory channels. Siemens is helping Hoa Lan school in a great way. They supply hearing aids at a low price and visit the school every month for free to do maintenance on the hearing aids and educate the children how to use it.

The question:
However, a good pair of hearing aids costs about 1200USD and the parents are too poor to pay this. So: WE NEED YOUR HELP! We already have a good friend who decided to donate one pair. Also we (Robert and Monique) have decided to donate one pair, so we can already help 2 kids to hear again!! All your help is welcome.
