Varsity Coaches



Coach Dennis P Geraghty

Coach Geraghty has just completed his 10th year as head coach at Western Dubuque. This year the Bobcats finished with an overall record of 15-7 and 11-3 in the Wamac East conference, and 15-3 in all Wamac games. The Bobcats tied with West Delaware as Wamac East champs, and were the Overall Wamac champs by ourselves. Coach Geraghty has a 10 year record with the Bobcats of 166-67, and has helped lead the Bobcats to the State tournament on 2 different occasions. (2010 and 2012) The 2012 Bobcats finished second at the State tournament with a 24-3 final record. The Bobcats have won 5 Wamac championships in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2018 under Coach Geraghty
Coach Geraghty grew up in New York City and was a second team All NYC guard while playing basketball for Port Richmond High School on Staten Island. He graduated from St. Ambrose University and was twice selected as a first team all conference player. He was later inducted into the St. Ambrose Hall of Fame in 1985.
Coach Geraghty has a 39 year coaching record of 500-346, and his most recent stops have been at Tipton, West Delaware, and Dubuque Hempstead. His teams at West Delaware were 88-24 over a 5-year period with 2 trips to the State tournament. His
1999-2000 West Delaware team finished 24-1 and took home the second place trophy from the State tourney as well as the Sportsmanship trophy. Coach Geraghty is a retired English teacher at Hempstead High School and is married to Juli who is a retired business teacher from Dubuque Senior High School. They have 2 grown children: Nathan and Kelsey who both graduated from Hempstead High school, and Kelsey is a Loras grad in business. 


Coach Cusick


Coach Cusick is originally from Ames Iowa, graduated from Beckman High School in 1979. Attended The University of South Dakota played Basketball at USD from 1981 - 1984 graduated with a degree in Health, P.E. and Recreation. Received my Masters in Education from Clarke College in 1989. Started coaching at Maquoketa Valley from 1985 to 1987 Finishing 2nd in the State in 1986. Started coaching at Beckman in 1988 til 2007 with State tourney appearances in 2002, 2004, 2006. Coach Cusick is married to Sherry who is the Network Administrator at The University of Dubuque. My daughter Jamie is a school councilor at Medapolis High School and son Jason is at Wartburg. 




Sophomore Basketball Coach 

Coach Wilson

Coach Wilson is originally from Dubuque and graduated from Dubuque Hempstead High School.  He then attended UNI and graduated in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. In the summer of 2012 Coach Wilson recieved his master's degree in education from Morningside College.  Coach Wilson spent two years as the head sophomore boys basketball coach at Hempstead before coming to Western Dubuque.  After nine years at Western Dubuque, coach Wilson has an overall record of 123-66 with three conference championships and three second-place finishes in the conference. Coach Wilson is married to Kayla, a third grade teacher at Drexler Elementary in Farley and has two daughters, Isabella and Clara.


Freshmen Basketball Coach

Coach Wulf

Coach Wulf is originally from Davenport and graduated from Davenport Central High School.  He then attended the University of Dubuque and graduated in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in Education. Coach Wulf is currently working on his master's degree in education from Morningside College.  Coach Wulf has coached 8th grade football, Freshmen Basketball, and Freshmen Baseball since 2014 at Western Dubuque.  Coach Wulf is married to Lisa, a pediatric physical therapist at Finley Westmark.



8th Grade Basketball Coaches

                                                                                  Coach Dolphin

Coach Dolphin grew up in Cascade where he was active in basketball and football. After high school he continued his education at St. Ambrose University where he majored in History and Education.

Coach Dolphin has been involved with the boys program at Western Dubuque since 1993. He has coached at all levels at W.D. serving as the assistant varsity coach along with being a head coach at the freshman and sophomore levels. Currently Coach Dolphin is teaching 8th grade U.S. History at Drexler Middle School. Coach Dolphin lives in Dubuque with his wife Lisa, and children Nick and Callie.
