Folding 3-Wheeled Wheelchair

Designing a sturdy folding wheelchair for rough terrain

Welcome! We are a project group from MIT's Wheelchair Design in Developing Countries class, designing a folding 3-wheeled wheelchair that is stable enough to handle rough terrain and can still be produced in local workshops in developing countries.  Our goal is to allow our wheelchair to be built locally in developing countries to stimulate economic growth and not undercut smaller workshops.  We designed the wheelchair specifically with these countries in mind, since many donated wheelchairs are good for use in cities and paved roads, but not for rougher terrain.
