Well On Our Way!!

Smart Start Kansas is a framework of flexible funding that allows communities to respond to the needs of all local children ages birth through five and their families.

The West Central Kansas Smart Start Grant was awarded to the Hays School District (USD 489) at the beginning of the 2005 school year.  The grant is funded by the Kansas Children's Cabinet.  The Cabinet is funded by expenditures from the Master Tobacco Settlement.  The WCK Smart Start grant provides services in the following counties:  Ellis, Rush, Russell, Rooks, Phillips and Norton.

In addition to providing information on early childhood issues, the grant supports the following programs/program areas:  Parents As Teachers/Early Head Start (PATHS), Healthy Start, Mental Health Services, Car Seat Program, and WAGE$ (Quality Child Care).
