Wiki Response 11: How People Learn - Expert Teachers
As leaders whose responsibilities include designing and/or implementing professional development for our teachers, it behooves us to keep in mind the points mentioned by Bransford, Brown, & Cocking about expert teachers. Professional development should have as one of its goals the movement of teachers from wherever they may be on their learning continuum to a place of expertise. Expert teachers need expertise in both subject matter content and in developmentally-appropriate pedagogy. They need to understand how their subject matter(s) are organized. Professional development must help teachers transfer their learning and apply it to different situations. Teachers need to embody lifelong learning.
