You're no longer wandering exiles. This kingdom of faith is now your home country. You're no longer strangers or outsiders. You belong here, with as much right to the name Christian as anyone. God is building a home. He's using us all—irrespective of how we got here—in what he is building. God used the apostles and prophets for the foundation. Now God’s using you, fitting you in brick by brick, stone by stone, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone that holds all the parts together. We see it taking shape day after day—a holy temple built by God, all of us built into it, a temple in which God is quite at home.   Ephesians 2:19-22 (The Message)

Welcome Message

There’s a story that is told of the medieval monasteries.  When one of the monks would leave the abbey to go off into the woods for a period of solitary meditation, when he would return and knock at the door, the abbott would ask, Why have you returned?  The monk’s reply was always, “I return for whose feet would the hermit wash?”

Those ancient monks understood what we modern folk sometimes forget – Christianity is a faith built on the concept of community – koinonia.   God calls us together into a space provided for us by God … all of us, the lost and forsaken, the blind and the lame, the young and the old, the rich and the haughty, the proud and the strong, the meek and the lowly* … God calls us into community to work, to play; to sing, to pray; to eat (after all, we are Presbyterians!), to serve; to question, to obey; to give and to receive.

Here at Waverly, we take to heart this notion of community and the reality that our community extends far beyond the walls of our beautiful sanctuary.

There is a sweet, sweet spirit at work here at Waverly and we invite you to come and experience it for yourself!

While relatively small, we are mighty.  We are more than a congregation – WE ARE FAMILY! Our heart and core is in the youth of the church.  With many strong and invigorating children/youth programs, we continue to attract young families.

An active and bold faith community numbering 130, we are a diverse and eclectic congregation approaching mission, youth and community by laughing, grieving, praying, working and playing together in the name of Christ.  Our enhanced capacity to carry out our mission and ministry is made possible through the Spirit working through us and our ministry partners.

Surrounded by many distinct neighborhoods, Waverly Presbyterian Church is a congregation that embraces both the community and world. One of our central focuses is outreach. In doing so, we enjoy connecting with our neighbors across the street and those across the globe.  Our outreach includes projects and activities throughout each year and a major project each summer.  Our major projects, which rotate on a three-year basis, include: a youth mission trip, a local mission project involving all ages, and an adult trip.  Please click here for more information on our outreach.
