Welcome to theAre you interested in knowing more about us? Our heart and core is in our youth. With many strong and invigorating children/youth programs, we continue to attract young families. An active and bold faith community numbering 130, we are a diverse and eclectic congregation approaching mission, youth and community by laughing, grieving, praying, working and playing together in the name of Christ. Our enhanced capacity to carry out our mission and ministry is made possible through the Spirit working through us and our ministry partners.

Are you interested in a trip to Rwanda?
A group of Waverly Presbyterian Church members, under Bob Dove's leadership, is planning a trip to Rwanda to volunteer at the Urukundo Village and Learning Center. This was created in 2006 by Arlene Brown, who is from the Philadelphia area but has a daughter in Forest Hills.
We are planning the trip from Saturday, May 21 to May 30, 2016 and have 8 or 9 committed from Waverly but hope to get a couple of more people to take advantage of a group rate (we need a minimum of 10 for that group rate). We would be flying out of Dulles, probably on KLM airlines. (We would caravan to D.C. Mary Chester Wasko has arranged free parking -- and overnight accommodations if needed -- at a friend's church very close to Dulles airport.)
Urukundo is about an hour from the Rwandan capital of Kigali. Arlene Brown, known as "Mama Arlene" hosts mission groups all the time and there are a variety of ways to help: helping at the farm, healthcare center, school for children up to fourth grade, construction projects, music programs. Bob Dove hopes to set up a computer center with 10 laptops and some iPads he plans to bring.
Here is a Philadelphia Inquirer story about Mama Arlene and Urukundo Village. Her website is below for the foundation that supports this effort.
We have booked the flights with a $1,200 deposit. Although the plane cost right now is $1,734 per person for the group rate, Adam Dove is creating an online fund-raising campaign to help lower these per-person costs. The deposit is fully refundable Feb. 17 if we cannot get the extra people. If world events turn we can cancel with a $100 penalty per person by April 6. Some vaccinations, like yellow fever and typhoid, would be needed but not until 30 days before departure. Malaria pills also are highly recommended, which need to be taken a few days before departure, during the trip and a few days afterward.
Weather is temperate; this is in the mountains so weather is a constant 70 degrees during the day -- not over 100 as in some parts of Africa. There also is a CMU campus in Kigali, where they are training Rwandans in high-tech professions, so the country -- known these days as the "Switzerland of Africa" is relatively safe, clean and well managed, according to people who live and travel there.
Anyone interested should contact Bob Dove at email@example.com. Thank you.
