Watts up?, how to?

Contact : Alexis Nuttin

Students, with support of a reference professor, have organized an event to first present world energy issues and then manage a discussion with a large and non-specialist audience. Two different presentations have been made by two groups of 6 students each with the help of scientific experts, in order to allow creativity and spontaneity both in the way of presenting facts and answering questions.

This year, all presentations have summed up the last synthesis report from the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change):

Climate Change 2014 Synthesis Report

(IPCC, 2014: Climate Change 2014: Synthesis Report. Contribution of Working Groups I, II and III to the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change [Core Writing Team, R.K. Pachauri and L.A. Meyer (eds.)]. IPCC, Geneva, Switzerland, 151 pp.)

Session 2

Additional material : two great videos

1) first one gives an hint on how bad the layman is aware of Climate Change:

Climate Change is Boring

(this type of observation is part of our motivation)

2) second one is a selection of possible questions, based on misunderstanding or misinformation:

13 Misconceptions About Global Warming

(especially between 2:20 and 4:10, summing up our first questions to and answers from prof. Treiner)

Many thanks to the colleagues who helped me on this project, including those who lent me their luminous globes for the illustration of the standard developed Global Footprint as well as the necessary factor 4 of reduction of GHG emissions by 2050.
