MAGHA PUJA DAY 19th February 2019

posted 7 Feb 2019, 18:36 by Wat Palelai   [ updated 21 Feb 2019, 18:20 ]

Palelai will be celebrating the above festival on Tuesday, 19th February  2019.

The Event Organizer for this evening is Sister Ow Soon Boon.

MAGHA PUJA, also known as Sangha day is a Buddhist celebration commemorating

the spontaneous assembly of 1,250 arahants in the Lord Buddha’s presence.

One thousand of the gathered monks had previously achieved Awakening upon hearing the

Lord Buddha’s delivery of the Fire Sermon; the remaining 250 were followers of the elder monks,

Venerable Moggallana and Venerable Sariputta.

To mark this auspicious gathering, Lord Buddha delivered the Ovada - Patimokkha, or Patimokkha Exhortation,

a summary of the main points of the Dhamma, which Lord Buddha gave to the

assembly before sending them out to proclaim the doctrine.

"Do no evil, do good, purify your mind.  This is the Lord Buddha's teaching".

The Resident Monks and the Board of Management invite you and your family to join us in celebrating this meritorious event.
