a. New Year's Eve and Day

Annually, the temple hosts simple ceremonies to commemorate the passing of the year as well as to welcome the new one. The significance is also to end and begin the years "on the right note", i.e. mindfully practising the Dhamma. 

You can get a sense of the events from the programme for 31 Dec 2013 and 1 Jan 2014 as reproduced below. 

New Year's Eve (Tues, 31 Dec 2013)

Palelai Buddhist Temple will be holding a New Year Eve evening blessing session on Tuesday 31st December 2013.

Programme:

11:00 pm       Lighting of candles and incense-sticks by President, Veneration of  the Triple Gem followed by requesting for the Five Precepts.

11:30 pm       Paritta Chanting by the Sangha followed by Dhamma Talk.

12:10 am        Transference of Merits.

12.15 am         Distribution of “Huat Kueh” (Prosperity cake).

New Year Day (Wed, 1 Jan 2014)

Programme:

09.00 am       Pindapata (Alms Collection by the Sangha).

09.30 am       Lighting of candles and incense-sticks by President, Veneration of the Triple Gem followed by requesting for  the Five Precepts.

09.40 am       Paritta Chanting by the Sangha.

11.00 am        Dana Offerings to  the Sangha.
