Dear Parents and Students:

We are looking forward to a great school year!  We are excited to continue “Cultivating Leaders” here at Waterville as a part of our mission.  We look forward to working with you to help your child grow as a student and as a leader this year.

We have planned pre-registration for August 28-29.  Students in grades 7-12 are invited to come to the high school office between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm so that they can pick up their schedule and be assigned a locker for the upcoming year.  In order to receive these items, students must complete and hand in the following items:

  • Updated contact information form including providing email addresses if available
  • Annual health form (If you have just registered in our school and completed this form as a part of the registration process, there is no need to complete it again.)
  • Pay all fines or fees from previous school years.  (This includes lost library books, textbooks, lunchroom fees, and unpaid class fees.)
  • Fees for this school year include:

·         ASB $35 for grades 7-12 (ASB cards are required for club participation, music participation and athletic participation and also allow students to enter all athletic events at Waterville for free.)

·         Shop class fees $5 (In addition to the $5 class fee, there may be additional material costs for shop projects.)

·         PE Uniform fee $16 (For a pair of shorts and a t-shirt.)  Students will be required to wear their PE uniforms to earn full credit in PE.  Students must have at least one pair of shorts and one shirt but can purchase additional shirts and/or shorts at $8.00 per item. We anticipate adding sweatshirts and sweatpants during the fall for students who wish to wear those items during PE.

In preparation for the beginning of classes, you should purchase basic school supplies including: pens, pencils, paper, highlighters, and general supplies.  We strongly encourage each student to purchase a planner to use throughout the school year to help you ‘put first things first’. You will receive a supply list from teachers in their syllabus on the first day of school which will let you know additional items you may need.  All 7th and 8th grade students are required to have a 3 ring binder and dividers for that binder.

We will be hosting parent meetings throughout the school year and encourage you to attend these meetings.  Our first meeting will be September 3 at 7 pm with parents and students in this year’s 7th grade class.  We look forward to meeting and talking with you about how your child can succeed in Junior High School.

One of the great advantages of being a Shocker is the opportunity to participate in athletics, clubs, groups and activities.  Here at WHS we want all students to experience the many benefits of participating in athletics.  Learning to play as a part of a team, working toward greater physical fitness, working toward goals with your peers and building memories are just some of the many life skills you will gain through participation in Shocker athletics.  High school football begins on August 21 while high school volleyball will begin on August 26.  Junior high football will begin on September 3 for students in grades 7-8 while junior high girls basketball will begin on September 5 for students in grades 6-8.  Students must have turned in and completed all athletic paperwork in order to practice with their teams.  The office will be open for students to hand in forms and check their paperwork status on August 19 from 1-3 pm and August 20 from 9-11 am.  For more information about athletics at WHS and to get paperwork to participate in sports, check with the High School Office at 745-8583.

As we approach the start of school, we encourage you to check our Waterville School website at www.waterville.wednet.edu and the Waterville Shocker facebook site for new information.  We are excited to see each of you and to encourage you to challenge yourself personally and academically to do your very best.

See you soon,

Tabatha Mires
