Weekly Discussion Circle: Lives of Prophets
Every Tuesday, a discussion circle took place where we read excerpts from the book "God's Emissaries: Adam to Jesus" by Shaykh Rizwan Arastu, and reflected on the lessons from the lives of God's chosen apostles.
Brothers Laser Quest Evening
Just before Reading Week, TMA brothers joined with other brothers in the community for a fun evening at Laser Quest Kitchener.
Sisters Bowling Afternoon
Shortly after Reading Week, TMA sisters got together for an afternoon outing to play bowling.
Arba'een Blood Drive
The TMA joined up with other members of the KW community to donate blood near the day of Arba'een 1437 AH.
Muharram Panel
Every Muharram, the communities in KW invite two scholars to give lectures at the both Husayniyyah centres leading up to Ashura. This year, the TMA invited both visiting scholars - Shaykh Husayn Mekki and Sayyid Hassan Naqvi - to UW campus to speak to students directly and for some Q/A.
Muharram Majlis Rides
As has become TMA tradition, rides for students were made available to attend the Majlis of Imam Husayn (AS) at both Husayniyyah centres every night of Muharram leading up to Ashura.
PCTIS Information Session
The TMA hosted three scholars, Shaykh Shuja, Shaykh Salim, and Shaykh Muhammad Hasnain as they toured different regions in Ontario promoting a new full-time Islamic studies program in the GTA.
Eid al-Ghadir Celebration: Imam Ali (AS) Jeopardy
A celebration for the event of Eid al-Ghadir featuring dinner and a professionally-run trivia game.
Imam Mahdi (AS) Birthday Celebration
A poetry and speech presentation featuring reciter Naqi Rizvi and scholar Syed Hassan Mujtaba.
"Towards a Balanced Life" - Video Workshop
A three-part video workshop presented by scholar Shaykh Salim Yusufali on ways to balance various aspects of our lives, including time, food, and sleep.
Coffee Hangout - Sisters Event
An off-campus social event for sisters.
Weekly Meetings
A typical weekly meeting focused on self-builiding and ethics through the legacy of Imam Sajjad (AS). Sessions included weekly recitation and discussion on a segment of Du'a Makaarimul Akhlaaq (the supplication of seeking noble manners), and a presentation by a member on a chapter of Risaalatul Huqooq (the charter of rights dictated by the Imam AS).
Eid Celebration
The first ever collaborative event of the TMA with the UW Quran group jointly celebrated Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Ghadeer. The event included presentations, a game, dinner, and a short lecture by local scholar Shaykh Shafiq Hudda.
Unofficial TEDxTMA
Five short, enlightening, inspiring talks given by TMA members in one fast-paced program (including Salaat and dinner, of course). Speakers discussed interesting topics from their various fields of study: Civil Engineering, Biotechnology, Economics, Mathematics, and Psychology.
Water Bottle Distribution
Free water bottles were distributed to the general public as part of the international WhoIsHussain campaign to raise awareness about the thirsty slaughter of the grandson of the Messenger of God.
Ashura Commemoration Event
A Majlis program held on UW campus open to the general community and public at large, featuring reciters from Toronto such as poet sister Nasim Asgary and speaker Shaykh Vinay Khetia.
Muharram Shuttle Program
Not so much an event as a massive, efficient, and highly used service: the TMA arranged shuttle rides to both KW Husayniyyahs for nightly Majaalis during the first twelve days of Muharram.
Weekly Meetings
The months of Rajab, Sha'baan, and Shahru-Ramadhan are packed with important dates and occasions in the Lunar Islamic calendar - many of these occasions were commemorated and celebrated during the weekly meetings of the summer term.
The weekly event for the term! We meet on Mondays at Maghrib for some Ma'rifat, Mujtahids, and munchies. EV3 3406, usually around 6-7pm.
Biweekly presentations by TMA members on interesting topics related to our university studies. A great way to share knowledge and learn from friends. Wednesday evenings -- follow the announcement for more details on rooms.
Every month, TMA sisters get together for a nice social brunch at Cora's Breakfast and Lunch in Waterloo.
Brothers Laser Quest [February 1, 2013]
A fun evening for at Laser Quest Kitchener, where TMA members got a chance to show their brotherhood by shooting each other with laser guns. Plenty of fun for all involved!
Martyrdom of Sayyidah Fatima (S.A.) Event [March 24, 2013]
To commemorate the martyrdom of the daughter of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his family), the TMA organized a community event featuring a lecture by Syed Hassan Mujtaba Rizvi and a full dinner. Ticket proceedings and donations all went to support families of the victims of the Pakistan Shia genocide.
Muharram Awareness Program [November 23, 2012 -- Night of 'Ashura]
In preparation for the day of 'Ashura, the TMA presented a screening of the documentary "Karbala." The event included salaat, the film screening, short discussion, and refreshments.
Tawassul Tuesday Sessions [Tuesdays, September/October/November 2012]
The TMA gathered weekly for a recitation of Du'a Tawassul or the Munajat of Imam Ali (a.s.). Some meetings were accompanied by short presentations by members on the Tafseer of selected verses of the Qur'an. Also new for this term was the availability of gender-specific sessions: brothers and sisters gathered at separate events, giving all students an opportunity to participate in the recitations.
Roses For the Prophet [October 24, 2012]
TMA members and volunteers handed out roses affixed with Hadiths (sayings) of the Prophet (S) in response to the blasphemy against our beloved Prophet Muhammad (S). The TMA handed out out these approximately 75 roses to patrons of the SLC, along with informative brochures and pamphlets. There was also a screening of an animated movie of the life of the Prophet Muhammad (S), called "Muhammad, The Last Prophet" -- this movie was reviewed and approved by the religious council in Lebanon.
Weekly Du'a Tawassul [Tuesdays, May/June/July 2012]
Every Tuesday evening. the Waterloo TMA gathered for a recitation of Du'a Tawassul and pleasant socialization, along with some free snacks, of course. Each week also featured a short presentation or activity about one or two of our twelve Imams, led by a member of the TMA.

Group Qur'an Recitation [Month of Ramadhan 1433: July 21 - August 18, 2012]
For this campaign, we completed a group recitation of the holy Qur'an by allocating different Juz' to volunteering club members.
Canoeing Trip [July 14, 2012]
The TMA organized a canoeing trip down the Grand River on Saturday July 14, 2012 from 9:00 - 11:00am. Lunch and snacks followed!
Sha'baan Salawat Campaign [Sha'baan 1433: June 27 - July 20, 2012]
For this campaign, we aimed to collectively recite at least 5000 salawats during the month of Sha' baan, as a gift to our living Imam (a.s.) for his birthday. We ended up with a total of 10613 altogether!
Aqaa'id Classes [June 3, June 15, July 17, 2012]
The TMA held some (roughly) biweekly classes on Sundays at 6:00pm in MC 4058. The classes were taught by local scholar Shaykh Saleem Bhimjee, based on the lessons from the book "Theological Instructions" by Ayatullah Misbah Yazdi.
Guest Speaker - Shaykh Shuja Mirza [June 20, 2012]
We were very excited to host Shaykh Shuja Mirza as a guest speaker on Wednesday June 20, 2012! Shaykh Shuja is a very learned scholar, having studied at the Hawza in Qum for decades, and he does not usually present lectures for large audiences, so we were extremely lucky to have him come and speak to us. This event was open to the community at large.
