Commemorating 50 years of Service to Ulster Comhaltas
The 50th Ulster Fleadh was staged in Castlewellan in July 2010. As well as marking the achievements of the great All Ireland winning Down Team of 1960, this year's Ulster Fleadh Committee honoured those people considered to have made a significant contribution to Comhaltas over the years. Comhaltas is dedicated to the promotion of Irish traditional music, language, dance and song.

The present Chairman of Warrenpoint Comhaltas, Peter Donnelly, was one of those selected for this prestigious award. At a recent function to mark the achievement, Angela Rooney, Branch Treasurer referred to the many reasons why Peter received the award. A member of Warrenpoint Comhaltas for this past 27 years, Peter has worked tirelessly and unselfishly for the benefit of many, in particular the youth of the area.

Through his commitment and leadership, the Comhaltas tradition remains alive and continues to flourish . Peter Donnelly's hard work, much of which goes unseen and without any expectation of reward, has created the opportunity for many to enjoy and develop their talents. His efforts have contributed to the development of many of our local musicians, many of whom have gone on to specialise in this area. On their behalf and the countless others who have benefitted from his commitment, it is only fitting that Peter Donnelly, a 'true stalwart of Comhaltas', should be acknowledged in this way.

Word from Chairperson
I wish to take this opportunity to thank all connected with the Branch for their congratulations and best wishes on my recent award from the Ulster Council CCE!
I was delighted and indeed honoured to receive it. However, I feel it belongs to all those who have contributed to the Branch's success over the past twenty years!
