Merry Music for a Merry Christmas

posted 14 Nov 2017, 05:19 by Amanda Williams
“Merry Music” is the title of the Warminster Philharmonic Orchestra’s Christmas concert this year on Saturday December 9th at 7.30pm to be held at The Athenaeum Theatre in the High Street, Warminster.

Trumpet fanfares, trio-ing trombones and recognisable classics shall open the concert this year with classics from Sibelius and Grieg. The concert shall continue with a medley of British Sea Songs complete with a speedy sailor’s hornpipe and rousing Rule Britannia.

Amanda Williams, founder and conductor of the orchestra comments “As per our fourteen year tradition, we shall be welcoming some members of the U3A Singing for Well-Being group to join the orchestra and the audience for a good old sing along carol fest. The musicians and the public have voted for their top five carols this year and we look forward to raising the roof of the Athenaeum as we get into the festive spirit.”

“We shall be welcoming a new compere this year, Rob Yuill who has attended almost every concert with his young family since the orchestra’s formation in 2004. His wife plays viola in the orchestra and there is rumour that his eldest child Catherine is joining us for the carols with her viola next to Mum. A true family affair! Rob shall be introducing the musical works with his wonderful charismatic charm and fresh approach. Break a leg Rob!”

“I believe that classical music should be fun and accessible to everybody. As an orchestra we welcome people of all ages and skill to come and have a go in an informal, social atmosphere. The fact that many of the musicians will be sporting reindeer antlers and flashing earrings should prove we don’t take ourselves too seriously – we’re even inviting the audience to come in seasonal dress!”

Tickets can be purchased from the theatre box office on 01985 213891

£8 full / £7 concessions.
