Jingle Spells cast for a Wicked Concert!

posted 21 Nov 2018, 06:01 by Amanda Williams

“Jingle Spells” is the title of the Warminster Philharmonic Orchestra’s Christmas concert this year on Saturday December 15th at 7.30pm to be held at Warminster School, in the new purpose built Thomas Arnold Hall, Church Street, Warminster.

Plenty of overtures to get the evening underway including Verdi’s The Sicilian Vespers, Strauss’s Gypsy Baron and the very well-known Romeo and Juliet overture by Tchaikovsky. The second half shall open with fun and toe tapping highlights from the hit musical Wicked. The orchestra shall be welcoming Luke Willmore’s Love2Sing choir to perform City of Star’s from La La Land before joining forces to support the audience participation carols with descants and harmonies.

Amanda Williams, founder and conductor of the orchestra comments “As per our long-standing tradition, we shall be inviting the audience to join us for a good old sing along carol fest. We look forward to raising the roof of the purpose built Thomas Arnold Hall as we get into the festive spirit. With stunning acoustics and a cosy atmosphere we shall be fully equipped for a memorable evening of community music making.”

“I believe that classical music should be fun and accessible to everybody. Firstly, we especially wish to reach out to non-classical concert goers and young people. Classical music can seem daunting and too serious for some, as Warminster’s community orchestra for local people, we aim to make music approachable and enjoyable to all. As an orchestra we continually welcome musicians of all ages and skill to come and have a go in an informal, social atmosphere. The fact that many of the musicians shall be sporting reindeer antlers and flashing earrings should prove we don’t take ourselves too seriously – we’re even inviting the audience to come in seasonal dress!”

The orchestra is keen to support people who can’t easily leave the home, offering a free ticket to anyone who is accompanying a client (in a caring capacity), including nursing homes. To arrange, please call Amanda Williams 01985 216376.

Tickets can be purchased by calling 01985 216376 and leaving a message or email £8 in advance, £10 on the door.
