SS Otranto-La Croisine Memorial

Memorial to three sailors of the French ship La Croisine who were transferred to HMS Otranto following a mid Atlantic collision. HMS Otranto, carrying American soldiers, collided with HMS Kashmir, off the Irish coast and sank. The three men - Jean Marie Bougeard (died 13th October 1918), Louis Francois Cholon (died 23rd October 1918) and Guillaume Denier (died 14th October 1918) - survived the sinking but subsequently died in hospital in Belfast from complications relating to the Spanish Flu epidemic.
The newspaper picture of the original memorial appeared in the Belfast Telegraph on 2nd November 1921
