New Location

We are in the parking lot behind Martin Luther King Elementary School at 3200 6th Street SE,  which is accessed from Alabama Avenue across the street from Liff's Market and Democracy Prep and directly behind Rehoboth Baptist Church.

New Director

Nathan Harrington, a former Prince George's County and DC Public Schools teacher, is our new Director, responsible for managing the market and the community garden program. Nathan has lived in Congress Heights since 2009 and been a member of the W8FM board since 2012. He holds a masters in Educational Administration and Policy from Howard University and is known for his home garden and environmental activism as chair of the Committee to Restore Shepherd Parkway

Congress/MLK Community Garden

When you visit the market, you'll get to see our new community garden, which includes ten 10x3 foot raised beds in a grassy area of the Congress Heights Recreation Center. In April Nathan led Martin Luther King Elementary students in planting
potatoes, carrots, beets, radishes, lettuce, collard greens, cabbage, peas, beans, tomatoes, peppers, squash and herbs. Lettuce, radishes, and peas have already been harvested and sent home with students. Abundant harvests of are expected throughout the summer as children enrolled in the DC Parks and Recreation summer camp take over caring for the garden until school starts again in August.
