 why learn?

There are many reasons why you may want to learn the guitar.  Lets look at a few of them.

 · You want to impress people. (Most likely girls!)

· You want to become more musical by learning an instrument.

· You want to Rock, or Jam.

· You want a hobby.

· You think Guitar is cool, and you figure if you play guitar - you will be cool (This is true).

· You are through with playing air guitar and want to get more physical.

These are all valid reasons to pick up a guitar and start learning. Remember that everyone learns differently.  Here’s a look at what you need to become a guitarist.

 Patience

Guitar is a lifelong thing.  It's not overnight, over ten years, or over 50.  You've picked it up, now it's time to play for life.

Practice

Don't dread this word.  Practicing can be fun, especially if you practice songs you enjoy.  Remember to stretch yourself and be consistent.  Consistent practice is the  key to developing new skills and improving your playing.  Check out this link for some simple Practice Tips.

 Guitar Equipment

There are several guitar types.  I recommend starting with an acoustic, but electric is totally fine as well.  As a beginner you may want to stay away from special guitars like 12-strings, resonators, fretless, and other strange varieties.

Remember, a high price doesn’t always mean a great guitar.  The key to finding the right guitar for you is to do your homework and go test drive as many guitars as possible.   Ask yourself these questions . . . Does it feel good to play on?  Do I like the look?  Is it in my price range?  And, most importantly, How does it sound?
