I Am A Composer!

“And now, we’ll play and write down what you heard the birds sing today! Go ahead, try to play it” – the Music Fairy smiled.

I set at the piano and tried, but nothing sounded as what I heard.

“Play a note. Now, do you remember if the next sound the bird made went up or down? Did it skip any keys in between?”

"Oh, yes, I remember", I replied excitedly. Sometimes, they sang the same key, and then skipped down! I got it!"

“I’ll help you write it now, little musician”, the Music Fairy was so happy for me. I showed her where I started my melody on the piano. It was none of the notes I learnt yet. Plus, I liked to play the high keys.

“Tell me how many notes you had to skip up from E? Don’t worry that it is not in the middle of the piano for now. Just show me your note”- the Fairy read my mind.

Easy – it was the next note up from E.

“OK. What letter follows E – F? F it is. Run to the Magic Bridge and find it there”.

So I ran to the bridge, hopped on the bottom short icicle, and then hopped up, up, and up, landing between first and second bottom long icicles, to what the Music Fairy called an F note.

“Now jump the rest of your tune and write it down.”

That’s easy. This is what I wrote:

I even had words to my short song: I like playing outside!

Then I ran to the piano and played what I wrote. I liked how it sounded!

Do you need help with your tune, my friend? I can help you, don't worry!

Do you want to play a single note? Up, down, skip? Your tune does not have to be long.

Remember what you played, so you can play it again.

The trick is to find your first note. Is it an E, or up, or down from E? How many notes?

Now go to your Fantasy Bridge, step on E. Go up or down, if you need to find your first note.

Now jump your short tune. After you finish, write in on paper – draw 5 lines, find your first circle-cloud, draw it. Now finish up your bird-song. See if you can play what you wrote again.

“I like your song, composer!” the Fairy gave me “high five”.

“ Do you want your song to go fast or slow?” she asked me.

"Fast, of course" , I replied.

“Then, this calls for Con Brio, which in music means “with spirit, vigorously”. You should write it on top of your song.

Con Brio, "with spirit, vigorously" - that’s what those magic words I was saying at the spaceship’s lift off meant!!!

"All right", she continued. Can you tell me, if "I Like Pla - ing Out" are long or short notes? Remember, how we played ShortOLong Sound game?"

"Short", I replied.

"Then, do we color, and give them all stems?", she asked me.

"Yes, of course", I replied. "And what about "side"? That would be a little longer, so I will not color the last note, but will give it a stem", I continued.

"Correct again, bud!" - the Music Fairy always gets excited when I get things.

“Very good – the song is completed!" my sweat heart.

"Congratulations!!! You Are A Composer Now!!!"
