“Time for the Wrists-Trays game” the Music Fairy handed me a big post card.
“Challenge: Put this card on your wrist and let’s see how long you can play piano without it falling off.
Here are 3 rules:
1. cup your hand by placing it on your knee first,
2. keep your arm straight,
3. play piano with the tips of your fingers as if they were woodpeckers”
"Watch me." - Music Fairy sat at the piano, put her hand on her knee and then lifted it over the piano.
Then she placed a post card on her wrist and played a few keys.
Watch these 2 videos:
"ChaIlenge accepted!", I said bravely, sitting at the piano, and putting my right hand
on my right knee.
Then, keeping my arm straight, I put the tips of my fingers on the piano.
The Fairy carefully placed the post card on my wrist, and I started playing piano!
At first, the card fell off my wrist right away. So I tried again – and this time it stayed
up on my wrist for account of 2 only.
"I am glad you are trying. Here is the trick to make it easier", the Music Fairy
encouraged me.
"Leave your fingers on the piano. Now, lift your shoulders and drop them. Relax.
Try it again. Even if the card does not stay on for a long time, it will the next time - you'll see".
So I tried again - shoulders up, down. Put the card on my wrist - I did it!
The card stayed on for a count of 4! Then I played with my left hand with a post card on
my left wrist. I was careful not to lift my wrist, so I would not lose the card.
Now it is your turn, my friend-pianist. How long can you keep cards on your wrists?
Try it, and write down your score, so you can compare it with
your next score when you play Wrists-trays game again.
