Parent Advocacy Retreat

What?
 
A retreat to empower a community of confident, informed, and effective parent advocates in Wake County.
 
Who?
 
The retreat is for anyone; however, low-income parents of color who live in Wake County will be prioritized.  The retreat is organized by representatives from various advocacy organizations.
 
Why?
 
Low-income children and children of color in Wake County face tremendous challenges, including increasingly segregated schools, achievement gaps, and high suspension rates.  Their parents can and should be their greatest advocates.
 
When?
 
10am to 7pm on Saturday, September 18, 2010
10am to 5pm on Sunday, September 19, 2010
There will be a cookout for family and friends of participants on Sunday, September 19th at 3pm. 
 
Where?
 
Falls Lake State Recreation Area

Cost?
 
The retreat is completely free for participants.  In fact, participants will receive a small stipend. Materials, accommodations, food, transportation, and childcare will be provided at no charge.
