In the Howard Valley follow an old miners’ track above Louis Creek to a historic hut located in a small forest clearing. Carry on to a good lookout on the Porika 4WD Road taking about 3 hours. Return the same way.

From Kerr Bay at Lake Rotoiti, follow a zigzag track up out of the bush to a great lookout point below St Arnaud Range. Climb 250m further up to the ridgeline and go along St Arnaud Range to a trapline and descend steeply to the Lakehead Track and back to the start.

CLUB NIGHT:

Living in an 11m house bus

 Wednesday 4 October 2017

Campbell and Niki Sturrock will talk about their experiences converting an 11m bus and travelling around NZ living sustainably, ‘leaving it better than you found it’. Take a tour through the bus and have a ride/drive of a fully electric Nissan Leaf vehicle. Interesting stories. (Best not to park in the carpark this time).

Head away Saturday morning and walk some of the Link Pathway from Ngakuta Bay. Stay at Picton Top 10 Holiday Park. Sunday a ramble around the Wither Hills Farm Park in Blenheim. Let the leader know by Tuesday

Mt Stevens

Wakamarama Range, Golden Bay

(Moderate/hard)

Start south of 15 Mile Creek Bridge on Aorere Valley Road, 28 km from Collingwood and ascend this 1300m peak, the highest point in the Wakamarama Range with wonderful views of the Aorere Valley and West Coast. The route is steep in places. Return the same way. A full day trip of 7-8hrs. Possibility to stay in Golden Bay for Labour weekend. Make your own arrangements for accommodation.
