Eric Curtis Tea Dance

At our Committee meeting in January we began discussing the teachers for the new class, to start in March. We were somewhat surprised to hear Eric say that he would no longer be teaching the new dancers as he felt the time had come for him to retire. As Eric has taught the new Waggoners dancers for around 40 years we knew that this day would come at some point, but we were all saddened for the dancers in the future who would miss out on being taught by this truly patient man.

The next question was how we would commemorate Eric’s long service to the Square Dancing world? After discussion with Eric, who was most humbled by the suggestion that we would want to honour him at all, it was decided to hold a Sunday afternoon Tea Dance on the 25th June at St Joseph’s in the Park School, St Mary’s Lane, Hertingfordbury, Herts between 3.00 p.m. and 6.00 p.m. Simon and Trudy, who were themselves taught to dance by Eric, immediately volunteered to call for the Tea Dance which will be mainly Mainstream.

Anyone who was taught to dance by Eric, whether they are still dancing or not, anyone who has enjoyed dancing in a square with him and anyone who has served on a Committee with him, where his passion for recruitment shone through, is most welcome to come to the Tea Dance. There will be no entrance fee or raffle and tea, coffee and squash will be provided but we would appreciate a plate of Pot Luck.

If you would like to come along please let us know at waggonerssdc@gmail.com or phone David on 01992 441083.

We do hope that as many as possible of Eric’s old students and friends will come along, bringing memories and photos, and we look forward to seeing you all on the 25th June.
