For more photos see page "Bringing in the New Year at Swanwick"

Monday 7th January 2019 -  Our first club night of the New Year and we danced five squares with Simon, Trudy and Andrew sharing the calling.
We were also very pleased to welcome Sandy, our first new member in 2019.

Saturday 12th January 2019 - Over 30 of our members (not all present at the time the photo was taken) attended the Future Focus Team's Day of Dance at Wendover and had a great time dancing to Trudy, Simon, Andrew, Kevin Lovell and Granville Spencer.

Monday 14th January 2019 -
Simon was our caller this evening and he introduced the Students to the delights of the move "Spin Chain Thru".
For the last singing call of the night Jacqui joined Simon on stage for a duet  of Paul Simon's "Slip Slidin' Away".

Saturday 19th January 2019 -
Barry, Christine, Jackie, Keith R, Penny, Bob, Hazel, Martin, Eric, Keith B, Sue, Janet and David had a great evening dancing to Paul Bristow and the live Forest Band at the Winter Extravaganza 4 dance in Hemel Hempstead raising over £1500 for Prostate Cancer. Matt Baldry, who is the main organiser of the event and in the past 4 years has riased over £8000 for the charity, was cueing Rounds.

We all signed a "thinking of you" card for Sara who is unwell and a bit fed up with not being able to come and dance with us.

Monday 28th January 2019 -
On a cold evening we were warm in our hall and danced 5 squares.
Last week we sent a "thinking of you" card to Sara and this week she sent a card thanking us for our kind thoughts.

Monday 4th February 2019 - Our Students, who have been shown nearly all the moves in the Mainstream programme, were tonight taught how to "Scoot Back". During the evening Penny filmed some squares dancing which she will edit into a short video to be used for recruitment purposes.Simon's last two singing calls were "Rockin' All Over The World" and "American Pie" and he introduced some of the newer dancers to the "Scatter Promenade" when every time the caller instructs "promenade" all the couples "scatter" to a different square. As there were more couples than room in the squares this caused great hilarity as the couples vied for places.

Sunday 10th February 2019 - Brian, Carole, Rhoda, Janet, Sandy, and David went to the London and Home Counties Regional Callers Assembly Winter Friendship Dance at Kensworth and had a very enjoyable afternoon dancing to Trudy and Simon.

Monday 11th February 2019 - Our Students, who have been shown nearly all the moves in the Mainstream programme, were tonight taught how to "Cross Run" and "Dixie Style to an Ocean Wave". Trudy's "Top Technical Tips" stressed the importance of light and gentle hand holds. Michael and Joyce very kindly took their turn in making the teas and coffees.

Monday 18th February 2019 - Tonight our Students were taught their final move in the Mainstream programme - how to "Recycle". They will now have a couple of weeks to revise all the moves before they are presented with their "Completion" certificates etc. on Monday 11th March.
Simon had his radio mic with him this evening and used it when he walked among the squares while performing a singing call. Later, when Andrew was calling the last tip of the evening, Simon surprised him by joining in the singing call, "I Was Too Busy Being In Love",  using his radio mic, even though he was sitting out with the dancers and not on the stage.

Monday 25th February 2019 -
This evening we were very pleased to welcome Jo Willis who is the Carer Development and Learning Manager for Carers in Hertfordshire. Jo told us briefly about the work done by Carers in Hertfordshire and was then presented with a cheque for £550, being the money raised at our Christmas party in December, by our Chairman, John, and dancer, Rhoda, who had suggested the charity to the Club.

Saturday 2nd March 2019 - At the Annual General Meeting of the Square Dance Callers Club of Great Britain, which was held in Oxfordshire, our caller, Andrew, was presented with the Harry Preston Memorial Award. The Award is given to the Caller or Cuer who, in the opinion of the SDCCGB Council, has "made the most progress in the preceding year". Well Done, Andrew! Previous winners of the award include our own Simon and Trudy (21 years ago back in the 1990's).

Monday 4th March 2019 - Andrew brought his Harry Preston Award along this evening to show everyone what he had won. The members enjoyed looking at the past winners name plaques on the trophy and everyone congratulated Andrew on his achievement.

Monday 11th March 2019 - Tonight our 2018-2019 Student Class, Brian, Carole, Jan, Kim, Rhoda and Sandra and Sandy (who also learned to dance with Tilehurst S.D.C.) received their "Completion" certificates, club badges, complimentary copies of Let's Square Dance magazine and a welcome letter from Susan Ellis, B.A.A.S.D.C. President from the B.A.A.S.D.C. Secretary, Barbara Scott and our club callers, Trudy, Simon and Andrew. Waggoners are pleased to welcome them all as full club members. After the presentations we all went to the Dining Hall where we enjoyed cakes with our teas and coffees.
Our thanks go to Trudy, Simon and Andrew who taught the Class on a rota basis.
For more photos see page "Completion Evening 11 March 2019"

Monday 18th March 2019 -
Simon announced that it was "Boys Night" as Trudy was away for a few days so it would just be himself and Andrew calling. Three of our members were given new or replacement badges. Roger, one of our newer dancers, was presented with his first club badge, Alan had mislaid his original badge and was given a replacement in recognition of "still remembering the moves" while Geraldine (who refused to have her photo taken) had disliked the shortening of her name on the original and was given a replacement with her name in full.

Saturday 23rd March 2019 - 12 Members of Waggoners (Andrew, Bob, Keith, Barry, David, Jackie, Penny, Cherie, Jacqui, Sandy, Christine and Janet) attended the Grand Square United Kingdom dance at Furzton, Milton Keynes. Maarten Weijers (Grand Square Netherlands) and Tommy Schneeberger (Grand Square Germany) called Squares and Martin Pruefer (Germany) cued Rounds. Over the weekend Cherie, Jacqui and David attended a Caller Training School run by GS UK where the coaches were Maarten, Tommy, Martin and Walt Burr, the Leader of Grand Square Europe.
At the end of the course they were presented with achievement certificates.

Monday 25th March 2019 -
We were very pleased to welcome 14 new dancers to our Hoedown and, after Simon and Trudy had explained the basics to them, we had a great evening together, at times dancing 6 squares.
