Curriculum

Our curriculum is underpinned by our philosophy, the Ministry of Education’s Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whāriki and current research and theory.

Te Whāriki (the mat) is founded on the vision that tamariki are

competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society.

It weaves the principles of:

Whakamana – Empowerment: The early childhood curriculum empowers the child to learn and grow.

Kotahitanga – Holistic Development: The early childhood curriculum reflects the holistic way tamariki learn and grow.

Whānau Tangata – Family & Community: The wider world of family and community is an integral part of the early childhood curriculum.

Ngā Hononga – Relationships: Tamariki learn through responsive and reciprocal relationships with people, places, and things.

At Wadestown Crèche, our tamariki have access to a range of play experiences throughout the session. These experiences are chosen to enhance interests of the group or areas identified from assessment of individual tamariki.

Assessment for tamariki A brief evaluation of the interests, strengths and needs of all children occurs at the end of each session. This contributes to the planning and documentation of your child’s learning and development.

Each child has their own portfolio which documents their learning and development during their time at crèche. Portfolios are enhanced by contribution from the child's family. Family contributions to portfolios enable teachers to gain a greater understanding of your child, and your aspirations for them. The portfolios provide a rich record of your child's learning and development during their time at crèche.
