The Price County Repeater Association is a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational, scientific, and charitable organization eligible to receive tax deductible donations under Section 170(c)(2) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Association is incorporated as a non-stock corporation under Wisconsin law.  We are tax deductible and receive contributions. Please send them to PO box 14 ParkFalls W.I.  4552-0014

The Association was initially incorporated in May of 1980 for the purpose of acquiring and deploying a regional VHF repeater to serve the greater Price County area, including southern Ashland County. A VHF repeater was purchased and placed in operation at Park Falls, Wisconsin, on 147.000 MHz. A second UHF repeater operating on 444.475 Mhz was eventually acquired and placed in operation at a second location in the City of Park Falls.

The PCRA has provided continuous support for these repeaters for the last 31 years and has gradually updated equipment and site locations to expand wide-area coverage in rural northern Wisconsin. The Association was recently re-organized after the long illness and death of the long-term Registered Agent, KZ9V. The club call, W9PFP, was obtained by the PCRA in 2011 and the Association also obtained ARRL affiliation in 2011.

The PCRA currently has a long term lease agreement with the Wisconsin Educational Communications Board at the site of the Park Falls WLEF Public Broadcasting facility.  VHF and UHF antennas fed with 7/8’ Andrew Heliax are located at 300 feet on the WLEF tower.  New Bridgecom VHF and UHF repeaters were purchased and installed at this location in 2011.

A second repeater location is at a Park Falls municipal water tower in the city. A VHF/UHF duoband antenna is installed at 140 feet on the tank top. This is currently used for UHF and VHF D Star repeaters and an APRS digipeater.

An Echolink node on 444.75MHz running at 25 watts with a JPole at 40 feet is also maintained at the residence of N9MUH in Park Falls.

Amateurs within a 50 mile radius of Park Falls make regular use of the PCRA repeaters for the weekly Price County 2 meter net as well as for RACES and SKYWARN nets when severe weather threatens.

The repeaters have provided communications capabilities supporting Halloween Patrol with local police for most of the last 31 years.

The nets run on these repeaters also provide for the exchange of ideas to promote and expand amateur radio interest locally.

The PCRA is currently constituted only for financial infrastructure and operations support of the PCRA repeaters and all other area amateur activities are and will be occurring independent of the PCRA, unless specifically sanctioned by the PCRA.
