Voyager Custom Home Page

a custom home page template for the Verizon Wireless LG VX10000 Voyager

by Matthew Kleiman (mkleiman)

Update:  Users of the v11 (and v9) version of the Voyager software have reported some issues with changing tabs using the external touchscreen. This appears to be the result of some undocumented change in the browser's treatment of click events introduced in the new software. Pending a more permanent fix, you can fairly easily work around this issue by double-tapping on the tabs.

Quick Start

This is the easiest way to get started using one of the Custom Home Pages on your phone. Launch the web browser on the Voyager. Choose "WWW" or "Go To WWW" and then type in the address exactly as listed below:

http://vx10khome.googlepages.com/start.html

and then select "OK".

Follow the provided directions, and you will receive a link for your new home page and instructions on how to change the default home page for your browser. You will be given the opportunity to choose between the two themes.

Note: You cannot change any of the tabs or buttons using the "Quick Start" page. If you want to customize the links with your own favorite web sites, you must download the template as instructed below.

Note: Availability of the home page is subject to the accessibility of the hosting site at Google. No guarantees can be given that the home page will be accessible or available at any time. Although the author believes that the hosted pages will be accessible and available indefinitely, access may be impaired or eliminated without notice.

Customizing the Template

To customize the template with your own favorite web links, you will need to download the template file, edit the template, and then host the file on the internet. Instructions for each of these steps is provided.

Get the Right Version

The current version of the template is 0.94 [release announcement]. First, determine which version of the template you need based on your phone's browser version and your hosting preference. Additional instructions are [here].

Choose Your Theme

Second, decide whether you want to use the "Back in Black" or "Professional" theme, and then download the appropriate file below.

Back in Black Theme

1. [Version 0.94.3 black] - For the version 3 and version 11 Voyager browser. Uses folders.

2. [Version 0.94.3g black] - For the version 3 and version 11 Voyager browser. Does not use folders.

3. [Version 0.94.5 black] - For the version 5 and version 7 Voyager browser. Uses folders.

4. [Version 0.94.5g black] - For the version 5 and version 7 Voyager browser. Does not use folders.

Professional Theme

1. [Version 0.94.3] - For the version 3 and version 11 Voyager browser. Uses folders.

2. [Version 0.94.3g] - For the version 3 and version 11 Voyager browser. Does not use folders.

3. [Version 0.94.5] - For the version 5 and version 7 Voyager browser. Uses folders.

4. [Version 0.94.5g] - For the version 5 and version 7 Voyager browser. Does not use folders.

Edit the Template (Optional)

You can either use the template "as is" or you can edit the .html file to customize the tab names, button names and button links. For instructions on editing the template, see the tutorial [here].

Host the Template

Once the template is ready for use, you need to host it and the graphic files on the internet so that your Voyager can access them through the web browser. (You cannot "save" the files to your phone's memory; they must be hosted on the internet to be used.) If you do not know how to host the template on the internet so that you can use it on your Voyager, see the tutorial [here]. Update: Google has suspended its hosting services and the Googlepages service is no longer available. Although I will leave the tutorial link active for legacy purposes, you will need to find an alternative hosting service for your customized template.
