HORTICULTURAL PLANT PATHOLOGY
Born in the city of Coimbatore during the year 1953 and being a son of a farmer developed
interest in Farming and undergone B.Sc.(Agriculture) from 1972- 76 as a Ist Batch of Trimester system
of Education and passed with a Distinction of OGPA of 3.96/ 4.00. Awarded with ASPEE GOLD MEDAL for proficiency in Plant Protection
Completed Master degree in Plant Pathology during 1976-78 using ICAR Junior Research Fellowship under Trimester
system of Education. Passed out with a OGPA of 4.00/ 4.00 with 5 awards /prizes/medals for securing University FIRST rank and First rank in the Discipline of Plant Pathology
Thesis: Collar rot -wilt complex of Garden bean(Lablab niger var. typicus) (1978)

Worked for one year as Research Associate in the Mushroom Scheme ofthe Department of
Plant Pathology, developing cultivation techniques for the first commercialized Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus sajor-caju) in India.
Received ICAR Senior Research Fellowship during 1979 with a distinction of National First Rank and completed Ph.D. as a FULL TIME scholar during 1983 under
Trimester system of Education. Passed out with OGPA of 4.00/4.00. Awarded with Dr. Puri Medal for obtaining first rank in Plant Pathology
Thesis : Studies on fruit rot diseases of Chilli (Capsicum annuum) in relation to disease resistance (1983)

Worked in the field of Horicultural crops for more than 12 years and specialized in managing
disease problems in Horticultural crops at Horticultural Research
Station, Thadiyankudisai, Faculty of Horitculture at Coimbatore, Horticultural Research Station, Yercaud
Developed cultivation techniques for Pleurotus sajor-caju during 1978 , as Research Associate in Mushroom scheme. Simultaneously specialized in mushroom for
identifying new edible mushrooms. Developed cultivation techniques (Circular compact bed) for Paddy straw mushroom ( Volvariella volvacea).
Developed cultivation techniques for two new mushroom species viz., Tricholoma lobayense and T. gigantium.
Developed cultivation techniques for Black Poplar Mushroom (Agrocybe aegerita)Wood ear mushroom (Auricularia polytricha).
Worked in the Biocontrol Laboratory of the Department as a in charge of Mass Production of Trichoderma viride and condcuted several training
Actively involved in Under garduate teaching and offered 51 courses. Awarded with THREE Best Teacher Awards for the contributions in Education at University level, State level and National level
Served the students as a Warden for about 3 years and developed a lot of new ammenities in the Hostel and instrumental in the construction of separate 2 hostels especially for boys and girls of Dayscholar batch.
Served a Coordinator for the 1992-1996 batch of B.Sc.(Agri) and UG coordinator of Department of Plant Pathology for nearly 6 years.
Servced as a Cordinator of Rotract Club of TNAU, Coimbatore for nearly 10 years and conducted several Awareness programmes
Worked for 2 years at Forest College and Research Institute, Mettupalayam as a teacher and Placement officer.
As a Head of the Department of Plant Pathology for 2 years, all the laboartories in the
department were modernized and new Plant Pathology building was occupied
with all modern facilities and a New Building for Mushroom Research and Training was established
with seminar hall facilities.
Worked as Scheme officer- All India Coordinated Research Project on Mushroom and Principal Investigator for Venture Capital scheme on Mushroom training and Spawn production and retired from service on 31-10-201.
Currently acting as FOUNDER- PRESIDENT of MUSHROOM FOUNDATION OF INDIA with a Head quarters at Coimbatore.
