Childhood homelessness is a national crisis to which Mississippi is unfortunately not immune. More than 12,100 Mississippi children experience homelessness each year. As Mississippians, we find this to be an unacceptable problem which demands immediate attention…and a solution.

It is imperative that our elected officials tackle this issue head-on. Therefore, we urge the members of the Mississippi Legislature to support any and all legislation which seeks to provide support and services to the homeless as well as to end childhood homelessness in the State. Such legislation would include, but is not necessarily limited to, the creation and establishment of a Mississippi Interagency Council on Homelessness. Such an agency will provide increased coordination of the efforts to fully educate others as to this crisis, and to take the proper action necessary to bring it to an end. Our children deserve action NOW.
